ZenSports Aims To Secure US Licence

The peer-to-peer sports betting app of ZenSports, which has been exclusively based on the international market since its launch in March 2019, has taken the first step towards securing a US licence through a Strategic Gaming Management contract.

In conjunction with the deal, ZenSports has secured an option to buy the Big Wheel Casino in Lovelock, Nevada, with an additional right to run the sportsbook at Baldini’s Reno, Nevada Sports Casino.

Each of these deals would give ZenSports the physical presence that the Nevada Gaming Control Board needs to operate its mobile sports betting network in the state.

Mark Thomas, Co-founder and CEO of ZenSports, commented: “One of the biggest hurdles in getting licensed to operate an internet/mobile sports betting platform in the United States is the requirement to own or partner with a land-based sportsbook and casino.

“Through our great relationship with Strategic Gaming Management, we were able to secure the option to purchase this business in Nevada, which is the first critical step in getting ZenSports licensed and operating in the state.”

Thomas had initially met with Grant Lincoln, CEO of Strategic Gaming Management (SGM), back in January 2020. Subsequently, Lincoln made an angel investment in and became a ZenSports consultant. Since then, the firm has steadily expanded its international peer-to – peer sports betting business and raised funding from top investors such as Jason Calacanis, Jor Law and others.

Lincoln said: “ZenSports is proving to be a force in the mobile and peer-to-peer sports betting world. We’re excited to help give them an opportunity to expand into the Nevada market and make ZenSports a household name here.”

Now that ZenSports has the right to purchase and operate a sportsbook and casino in Nevada, the next move is to go through the licencing and technology certification process and get the mobile app operational there. ZenSports has retained Saltzman Mugan Dushoff’s law firm in Las Vegas to assist with the technology certification process with the Nevada licencing process and with BMM Testlabs.

Thomas said: “We look forward to bringing ZenSports to Nevada as a premier gaming licensee as soon as our applications can be approved.”
