ATP and WTA extend suspension due to Covid-19

ATP tour suspended until August  1, 2020
The ATP decided to extend the suspension through to July 31, 2020 (including) due to Covid-19 safety measures.  – ATP announed via official Press Release.

The decision was made after close collaboration with Tour members, meaning that ATP events: Hamburg European Open (Hamburg), Hall of Fame Open (Newport), Nordea Open (Bastad), Abierto de Tenis Mifel (Los Cabos), J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open (Gstaad), Plava Laguna (Umag), Tokyo Olympic Games (Tokyo), Trulst Atlanta Open (Atlanta) and  Generali Open (Kitzbuhel)Will not take place as scheduled previous. 

Due to continued uncertainties surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, we regret to announce our decision to extend the suspension of the Tour” – Andrea Gaudenzi, ATP Chairman has said.

For now, all-tournaments scheduled from 1 August 2020 onward are still planning to happen. A further update on the ATP Tour calendar is expected in mid-June.

If everything goes as planned ATP Season should resume in Washington, DC with Citi Open Open – tournament – scheduled for August 2, 2020 according to ATP Calendar.

WTA announces further suspension of four tournaments in July
WTA announed  that they will not held any tournament until August 1 – Bastad, Lausanne, Buchurest and Jurmala will not take place as scheduled previous due to Covid-19 ongoing pandemic.

WTA Spokesperson said “Following the announcement of the WTA Tour suspension through July 12, the WTA events scheduled for July will not be held, due to Covid-19

We regret this is the case but will continue to be guided by medical experts for when it is safe and possible to retrun to WTA competition. We continue to monitor the situation closely and are hopeful to be back on the court as soon as possible

Further information on when will WTA restart, along with decision if Karlsrushe and Palermo tournament may be played will be made in mid-June

The FedEX ATP/WTA ranking will remain frozen until this period of uncertainty is over.

Now is not a time to act recklessly. All decisions related to the impact of the Covid-19 require appropriate consultation and review with the stakeholder in the game a view shared by ATP, WTA, ITF AELTC, Tennis Australia, and USTA.
