The appointment of Christine Thurmond as Director of Responsible Gaming, reporting to Chief Compliance Officer Tim Dent, was added to DraftKings’ internal compliance team.
Thurmond is tasked with leading the development of the latest responsible gaming systems for DraftKings through igaming, sportsbook, and fantasy sports disciplines.
Thurmond joins DraftKings from her latest role at the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling (MCCG) as a senior business contributor. She spent nearly 20 years working at Harvard Medical School prior to her tenure with the MCCG, serving in numerous leadership roles including on the initial team that built the Addiction Division.
During her tenure as head of the ‘Addiction Division,’ Thurmond oversaw the department’s education and research administration and assisted in the development of numerous gaming-related programmes.
Tim Dent said: “Our goal in hiring a Director of Responsible Gaming was to find an established expert with a deep knowledge of the issues and a track record of pushing our industry forward and that’s Chrissy.
“We are committed to being a leader in responsible gaming and, given our foundation as a tech company, we think Chrissy can help DraftKings take an innovative approach to this critical issue.”
The company provides customers with responsible gaming tools, resources and services that they need to play responsibly, as part of their responsible gaming commitment. These practises include limitations on deposits, voluntary restrictions on access and use of certain offers, temporary bouts of self-exclusion and cooling-off, and voluntary permanent exclusion.
