The CA Osasuna football club in La Liga is under pressure to end its association with KirolBet shirt sponsor. The membership of Osasuna passed the decree that the club should terminate all agreements with ‘compromising partners’ at the ‘public assembly’ of the Pamplona club.
The assembly saw several leaders speak out against KirolBet as sponsor of jerseys, arguing that a betting firm should not sponsor the largest football team in Navarre.
Club President Luis Sabalza will reply to the assembly, saying that the government of Osasuna had begun negotiations with Grupo Kirol requesting an early end to the sponsorship of KirolBet, which will officially end in 2021.
“If the assembly so wishes, we will dialogue with Kirolbet, but we must bear in mind that, in the event of a voluntary termination, we would have to pay compensation that is not quantified,” Sabalza detailed to Osasuna supporters.
“This could give us take to court if no agreement is reached. We will talk about what the sovereign body wants.”
Club Chief Executive Fran Canal, speaking against the membership decree of Osasuna, reminded supporters of the financial importance of Kirolbet as a shirt sponsor.
Canal emphasised that Osasuna had made a number of changes to compromise Kirolbet as a shirt sponsor, which had seen the logo of the bookmaker removed from lower levels of teams.
In addition, Canal argues that Osasuna gives fans the opportunity to buy their kit without the logo of the bookmaker.
