As part of its continued focus on racing-related products and promotion, Sheffield-based sports betting company BresBet has gained sponsorship of the Steel City Cup, a major local greyhound racing championship.
As a result of the partnership, the newly created bookmaker will earn brand exposure by naming the tournament the BresBet Steel City Cup, with the first heats taking place on October 16 at Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium.
The event will include 36 greyhounds and will go to a semi-final on October 23 and a final on October 30, with the winner receiving £8,000 and the other finalists receiving $1,000.
Laden with history
BresBet’s Managing Director, Daivd Perry said: “The track has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
“Myself and my brother Carl (BresBet’s Head of Trading) went there as kids – and have never stopped going. We both had our first jobs at Owlerton and Carl ended up being a trainer there.
“The track has a great history and the Steel City Cup is very much part of that. During my time there I spent a lot of time promoting the Steel City Cup and finals nights were always the biggest meetings of the year – so it’s great to be back.”
BresBet, which launched earlier this month, has set a business goal to help people ‘get back into betting,’ with a focus on delivering ‘customer friendly’ services, especially in horse and greyhound racing.
Since its inception, the company has secured title sponsorship of the 75th East Anglian Greyhound Derby at Yarmouth Stadium, as well as partnerships with Uttoxeter and Warwick horse racecourses, as well as confirming that it is in talks with other racing venues to expand its brand across both forms of racing.
Finally, Champion jockey Paddy Brennan, was signed as the operator’s first “Racing Legend.” Brennan will strive to strengthen the company’s BresBet Foundation, which supports horse and greyhound welfare organisations.
Nic Brereton, the founder and chairman of BresBet, said: “We’ve had some great nights at Owlerton Stadium over the years and it’s a real honour to now become sponsors of the BresBet Steel City Cup.
“Horse racing is at the core of our business, but our love of greyhound racing will ensure that BresBet will feature prominently across both sports in terms of partnerships and sponsorships – we were delighted to support Yarmouth with a really successful BresBet East Anglian Derby and we’re looking forward to announcing other partnerships and sponsorships soon.”
