The 25th anniversary of Wheel of Fortune, the high-performing, fan-favourite slot game, has been announced by International Game Technology (IGT), the leading technology firm in the iGaming industry, and Sony Pictures Television.
The game was first released in 1996 by IGT in Reno, Nevada. The term immediately gained a worldwide following, becoming synonymous with jackpots, winning, and having a good time.
The millionaire-making machine
The Wheel of Fortune was a pivotal figure in the development of high-end casino entertainment. The Wheel of Fortune slot game is known for its sound, which is reminiscent of the classic Wheel of Fortune celebration, and has been termed “the millionaire-making machine,” since it has produced over 1,100 millionaires.
Over the course of its 25-year history, the game has paid out more than $3.3 billion in jackpot awards. IGT saw its potential and has produced over 250 variations of the famous game. It’s even more famous for awarding a record-breaking $14.4 million prize to a lucky player in Biloxi, Mississippi, in 2009.
The most successful slot theme of all time
Sony Pictures Television representatives believe the title’s capacity to entertain and deliver good fortune to players is ideally linked with the brand, and they praise IGT for creating the most successful slot theme of all time.
Suzanne Prete, SVP Global Licensing & Brand Management, Sony Pictures Television said: “For 25 years, IGT has artfully captured the fun, excitement and authenticity of the Wheel of Fortune brand through its world-class Wheel of Fortune Slots portfolio. Wheel of Fortune Slots’ jackpot-paying legacy and capacity to entertain people across diverse generations, geographies and channels perfectly align with the global Wheel of Fortune brand. Sony Pictures Television wishes to thank IGT for so effectively extending the excitement of America’s Game to the most successful slot theme of all time.”
Pop culture phenomenon
Wheel of Fortune slots are a highlight of IGT’s gaming portfolio, according to representatives from the company, which recently moved into North Dakota. They are delighted that their title has become a pop culture phenomenon, they say.
IGT Global Gaming CEO Renato Ascoli said: “Wheel of Fortune Slots are a hallmark of IGT’s gaming, lottery and PlayDigital product portfolios and have transformed the entire gaming industry on the merit of tremendous performance, vast player affinity, colossal jackpots and quality entertainment.
