Two Penn National Gaming-owned sportsbooks have been approved to begin operations within Louisiana, taking their total number of approved land-based sportsbooks up to a total of eight.
The two riverboat casinos will be situated in Bossier City, Louisiana, and will be taking sports bets from visiting customers at on-site ticket windows. It has been revealed that the Margaritaville riverboat casino will begin accepting bets on Friday, while the Boomtown riverboat casino will open officially to the public on Monday.
These two casinos are the latest in a line of riverboat platforms that have been approved and opened in Louisiana this week, after a further two sportsbooks opened in Lake Charles. These have been named Golden Nugget Lake Charles and L’Auberge Lake Charles.
Across the state there are now a total of 13 riverboat casinos in operation, on top of four horse racing tracks featuring slot machines.
Louisiana is one of the key markets opening up in the United States and many sportsbooks and casinos are looking to position themselves to take control of the market. It was revealed earlier this week that Caesers had signed a partnership with the Louisiana-born Manning family as Archie, Cooper, Payton and Eli signed a ‘first-of-its-kind’ deal.
Chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control, Ronnie Johns, told Gambling.com: “We’re not going to cut any corners in Louisiana. I’m proud of the rollout. It has been tremendous with no problems. That says a lot.
“We’re going to do it in a very safe manner. We’re going to make absolutely sure that those under 21 years old are not participating. We’re going to make absolutely sure that our geofencing is very accurate and is working in the manner it is supposed to work and that we’re compliant with the law.
“That’s the way I ran my legislative career, and that’s the way I’m going to regulate the industry here as chairman.”
