Unibet is expected to become Indiana’s new choice for mobile sports betting. The Indiana Gaming Commission approved Unibet sportsbook to begin offering mobile wagering in the state as of Thursday (July 30). Unibet has an agreement to start doing so through a relationship with Hammond Casino Horseshoe in Hammond.
On Tuesday the IGC signed off on the licence for Unibet, with the temporary vendor licence for the sportsbook originally issued mid-May.
Earlier this year the parent company of Unibet, the Kindred Group, announced an agreement with Caesars Entertainment to offer Unibet access to the Indiana and Iowa sportsbook markets. The company also had sportsbooks entering 2020, based in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Unibet is Indiana ‘s eighth online sportsbook, with DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM, BetRivers, PointsBet and BetAmerica joining. The site of Unibet at Horseshoe Hammond is conveniently located; it is about 30 miles from Chicago.
Indiana’s sportsbook and gaming fortunes mixed up last month. The sports betting handle was $29,783,580, down from May by 20.2 percent, and the internet sports betting handle was $29,149,096, down from month to month by 21.9 percent. The $634,486 retail amount benefited a little, as there was no retail in May with all physical casinos closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The overall casino win was again $105.061.605, compared to $0 in May with casinos being shut down, according to state-submitted figures.
The Horseshoe Hammond was doing well in Indiana until COVID-19 made waylaid all U.S. markets for both sports and casinos. The facility drew $12.391.845 in sports betting handle in February 2020, the last full month of sales before coronavirus-related closures, all online. It was the highest retail-only figure in the state, but, thanks to their respective mobile sports betting offers, Ameristar Casino in East Chicago (partnered with DraftKings) and Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City (with FanDuel) drew much greater overall handles.
