Unibet, Kindred Group Plc ‘s flagship sportsbook company, has confirmed its support for the #GoRacingGreen initiative through British horseracing – making UK racing open to those suffering from mental health issues.
In 2019, the #GoRacingGreen initiative was introduced by racing enthusiast and businessman Deborah Matthews, who publicly blogged about how equine sports helped her overcome her mental health challenges.
Matthews has extended #GoRacingGreen to help other mental health sufferers deal with depression, autism, ADHD, PTSD, trust in themselves and isolation.
The success of Matthews’ grassroots effort led to the sanction of #GoRacingGreen by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and the Racecourse Association (RCA) as headline charity initiative.
Unibet was the first bookmaker to help #GoRacingGreen and became a charity in the broader sponsorship model of the Kindred Party.
Ed Nicholson, Head of Kindred Group UK said: “Tackling mental health is at the core of Kindred’s commitment to become the sponsor of choice for sporting organisations and their communities and reinvent sponsorship so that it benefits places and societies.”
Unibet has made an investment in # GoRacingGreen, embarking on its latest sponsorship, helping the organisation to develop its network of mental health services through UK racetracks and stables.
In fact, the bookmaker will donate 1-in-3 of their UK racing commercial sports to help support the young charity.
Backing Unibet as partner, Deborah Matthews added: “This investment is a fantastic boost for the #GoRacingGreen project, and I am delighted to be working with Kindred through its Unibet brand. Working in partnership with them, we can now expand the programme and reach many more people with mental health problems across the racing community in the months ahead.”
