Next week, Champion Tyson Fury will fly to Pertemps St Leger. His globally known boxing namesake would have an invitation to see him in action if he makes it into the lineup.
The giant colt, trained by Richard Spencer, made a strong impression upon his debut. He had an impressive performance to win this one-and-a-half-mile rookie race at Doncaster, which took place in early July.
The co-owner Phil Cunningham has announced his intention to return to Town Moor for the oldest and most famous Classic in Britain. This despite not being willing to deliver a second race to Tyson Fury on the way to St Leger.
Cunningham said it’s magnificent “He has the name of a champion; he also commented that it is up to them to try to make him one.”
He notes that, for the first time, they met his hopes and aspirations, and mentions that the idea was still St Leger. “Many times you have to be brave” he affirmed.
Phil Cunningham is hoping to discuss all the specifics with Richard Spencer this weekend, ahead of Doncaster registration due next Monday.
He hopes at this point that Tyson Fury will take a major chance. He said: “We planned to do one more race, and after that, we leave, and of course, we have not been able to do that.
“This weekend, I will be in Newmarket, and I will be with Richard to decide this whole issue with greater confidence.
“By Monday, he will be running, unless something physical happens between now and Saturday.” He also remarked that he continues to advance and improve at home in the work and had done a good job all week long.
One of the dilemmas they have is that after only one race, they must face more seasoned horses in the Classic. Tyson Fury is a massive outsider when it comes to bookmaking and websites like www.royalbet.com have recorded the odds on all of this in front of other world leaders.
Cunningham also said he’s thinking the good news is that his only run was on a shorter journey, which did not seem to discourage him. This champion will accomplish the trip for him, performing on the track and be on the move.
The only thing they do have against them for Cunningham is inexperience and time. Because of his physical size Tyson Fury required time. He’s a really big horse, and it has always been that way.
The double heavyweight champion and boxing alter ego from Britain will be approached, only waiting for the bid from St Leger to do so. It’ll all depend on whether you have time to go to Doncaster in your schedule.
There has not yet been a scheduled meeting between the two couples; Cunningham has commended it. He hopes that they will be able to reach him and have a meeting.
