TwinSpires, a Churchill Downs-owned online wagering brand for horse racing and sports, will work with the Tonto Apache Tribe to enter Arizona’s newly legalised sports betting market.
Tonto Apache Tribe, owner and operator of the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino, has partnered with TwinSpires to open a retail sportsbook within the Mazatzal, as well as launch a “state-of-the-art” online sportsbook in Arizona – all of which are subject to obtaining the necessary gaming licences and regulatory approvals.
TwinSpires president, Ian Williams said: “The team behind the most exciting two minutes in sports is thrilled to partner with the Tonto Apache Tribe and pursue offering our leading sportsbook product and promotions to sports fans throughout Arizona.”
Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, has approximately 150 years of gambling and wagering experience in the United States.
Colorado, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Michigan are among the six states where TwinSpires sportsbooks are currently available. During the third quarter of 2021, Churchill Downs’ BetAmerica sports betting and igaming platform in New Jersey will shift to the TwinSpires brand.
Supporting the local community
Calvin Johnson, chairman of the Tonto Apache tribe, added: “In conjunction with our world class partner, we look forward to supporting the local community and bringing more visitors to the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino and our beautiful county.”
Churchill Downs Incorporated announced in April that its TwinSpires mobile app had been released in Indiana and a casino and sports app had been launched in Pennsylvania, as well as the opening of online sports betting operations in Colorado via the brand’s app and desktop product.
