TOTO, the Netherlands monopoly approved sportsbook and football pool operator, has undertaken a cycle of football collaborations as the Dutch Eredivisie prepares for its restart in October following the 2019/2020 season cancellation.
Whilst under lockdown, TOTO the Dutch national lottery operator’s sportsbook property Nederlandse Loterij has won nine Eredivisie partnerships – as the monopoly bookmaker becomes Feyenoord’s official sleeve sponsor, Sparta Rotterdam, Willem II, FC Utrecht, FC Groningen, ADO Den Haag, FC Twente and RKC Waalwijk.
It is confirmed that Nederlandse Loterij is engaged in negotiations with all Eredivisie clubs, seeking to promote TOTO as a sponsor of the league, helping Dutch football clubs and development programmes recover from pandemic conditions.
Dutch news outlets confirm that Nederlandse Loterij will pay for individual club sleeve sponsorships from €200,000-to-€300,000, providing financial assistance to Eredivisie teams.
The Dutch government directed the Dutch FA (KNVB) to end the Eredivisie 2019/2020 league last April, implementing that there will be no large-scale public events in the Netherlands until September.
The Netherlands government orders have led the KNVB and Eredivisie to agree on a tentative restart date of October 09 – a month behind other major European football leagues (La Liga, Premier League and Bundesliga).
Industry observers are currently awaiting the European Commission ‘s response to the ‘Remote Gambling Act’ for a final review on competition and fair market practises, as the Netherlands government intends to introduce its regulated online gambling market on 1 July 2020.
