Svenska Spel has expanded its relationship with Riksidrottsförbundet, the Swedish Sport Federation, and the deal is now scheduled to continue until 31 December 2022.
The new agreement is expected to have a value of SEK 42 million over the two-year duration and will come into force on 1 January 2021. As well as working on match-fixing efforts, the pair will concentrate on collecting funds for the country’s sports organisations.
Patrik Hofbauer, Svenska Spel’s President and CEO, commented: “Sport is a fundamental part of our society. We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the National Sports Federation. Together we secure important funds for the sports movement.”
Under the terms of the agreement, the full-time job at Riksidrottsförbundet is funded by Svenska Spel with the purpose of operating preventively and training against match-fixing. Svenska Spel and the Swedish Sports Federation run a programme together where it is possible to leave match-fixing information anonymously.
Stefan Bergh, Riksidrottsförbundet’s General Secretary, added: “It is gratifying that our important cooperation with Svenska Spel continues because it enables efforts to reach more people, counteract match-fixing, gives associations and associations the opportunity to continue to develop their activities in line with Strategy 2025 and last but not least increased opportunities to combine elite sport with studies.”
By awarding the Elite Sports Scholarship, a SEK 50,000 scholarship that is awarded each year to around 50 active athletes, the lottery and the national sports federation also continue to allow active athletes to combine elite sports with post-secondary studies.
Svenska Spel will also continue to be the primary sponsor of the Swedish Championship’s annual winter and summer weeks.
