The Portuguese casino operator Solverde Group has obtained a licence in the country for online sports betting.
Awarded by the Comissão de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal, the new licence would allow Solverde to accept online sport bets via its website Solverde.pt.
Solverde, which operates five land based casinos in Portugal, also holds an online casino licence in the country offering a variety of casino style games through Sasinosolverde.pt.
The news comes after a huge rise in online gambling revenues was announced by the Portuguese regulator Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) under Portugal’s Covid-19 lockdown.
Igaming operators posted an rise in sales of 44.2 per cent year-on-year to €138.9 million in the first half of the year.
The spike appears to have coincided with the lockdown of the region, with initial indications indicating revenue was returning closer to pre-pandemic levels after restrictions had been eased in June.
Country based casinos in Portugal reopened on June 5 with security measures in place.
