Matthew Shaddick, a Ladbrokes veteran, has been named as Smarkets’ new Head of Political Markets.
Shaddick has been the head of Ladbrokes Politics trading for 18 years, and he replaces Sarbjit Bakhshi, who departed the company at the beginning of the year.
Betting inventory and brand identity
Smarkets backed Shaddick’s appointment, saying he will be responsible for keeping politics as a “key pillar” of Smarkets’ betting inventory and brand identity.
CEO Jason Trost, a well-known political betting enthusiast, had the following to say about the appointment: “I’m delighted there are very few people out there with the same level of experience and expertise in this area as Matt. I have no doubt that his appointment will help us improve our political offering even further – both on the Smarkets exchange and on our sportsbook app, SBK.”
Smarkets hopes to become the go-to site for political betting, catering to the market’s numerous aficionados, and Shaddick will manage a dedicated trading team working with market analyst Patrick Flynn.
Shaddick will also contribute to the ‘Smarkets Politics Prices’ weekly, which provides insights and analysis on the latest political trends in non-stop markets.
Best political betting product
“This was an unmissable opportunity to join a company that has the best political betting product in the industry. I have already been bowled over by the enthusiasm and passion of my new colleagues and can’t wait to start working with the whole Smarkets team,” Shaddick stated.
“Political betting has been a huge growth area over the last decade and there is no other company I’d rather be joining. I’m hoping to play my part in helping Smarkets expand the world of forecasting and prediction markets to an even wider market.”
