SkyCity Entertainment Group has announced details of the grand opening of SkyCity’s The District, which features the first fully functioning brewery in a casino in Australia.
The District is officially debuting to the public on Friday 20 November as a “vibrant live entertainment space,” and is hailed as a “key pillar” of the ongoing $330 m Adelaide transformation of the group as it aims to create an integrated casino and entertainment district “world class.”
The SkyCity District plans to bring together all venues in the new Heritage Building on level one, including a poker zone, sports bar, microbrewery Pirate Life, live entertainment, and bistro.
The District venue manager, Jarrad Anderson, stated: “Aussies have always had a strong affiliation with good beer and places to drink it… live music, great food and watching sport is also part of our culture. Being able to find it all under one roof is our point of difference.”
A mezzanine level will feature the District at SkyCity, enabling expanded live entertainment capacity, where customers can enjoy tailor-made Pirate Life beers for the venue. Michael Cameron, Jack Cameron and Jared Proudfoot formed Pirate Life in Adelaide in 2014.
Proudfoot, co-founder and brewing director of Pirate Life, said that as the first series of Pirate Life beers made specifically for The District is launched, there is a lot to be excited about.
“Our first brew is the District Draught, brewed with Pale and Munich Malt, the District Draught is fresh, familiar and ready to session,” he commented.
“A hop free boil means ultra-low bitterness, with notes of citrus. It pours golden straw, with a generous pillow of foam. Expect aromas biscuit malt and nashi pear, with subtle notes of lime. The palate is malty, with a mild body and a clean, moreish finish.”
The repainting of the Marble Hall for the first time since the Adelaide Casino opened in 1985, and the refurbishment and expansion of the Baccarat Pavilion are other major transformation works recently carried out in the Heritage Building.
