SG Awarded 5-Year Massachusetts Lottery Contract

A new five-year contract from the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission has been awarded to Scientific Games to provide the Massachusetts Lottery with its world-leading instant games, second chance promotions and digital interaction services.

The new contract for Scientific Games, which can be extended by MSLC for up to two years, is extended to include consumer digital content that will involve players through exciting second chance game features and help preserve and raise Commonwealth revenues for the Lottery.

U.S.-based Scientific Games currently develops and produces 96 percent of instant games for the Mass Lottery. The company’s goods produced $3 billion of the Mass Lottery’s $3.6bn in total instant game retail revenue in fiscal year 2020. Science Games helped the Mass Lottery boost instant game revenues by 11.3 percent or $99.7m in fiscal year 2021, which began on July 1, 2020.

Ed Farley, Chief Marketing Officer for MSLC said: “The combined expertise of the Mass Lottery team and the teams at Scientific Games has resulted in great instant game entertainment that has generated strong revenues to benefit programs in the Commonwealth. We look forward to continuing this partnership and working to expand player digital engagement.”

In 1974, the company created the very first instant game of the Mass Lottery and its goods and expertise helped expand the Mass Lottery to the world’s No. 1 instant game lottery (La Fleur’s Almanac, per capita sales 2019). 50-100-500 Blowout, developed by Science Games, one of the franchise games of the Lottery, generated record retail sales in the Commonwealth, its popularity spurring other lottery jurisdictions to give players the game.

Scientific Games will partner with the Mass Lottery on additional second-chance promotions, such as the James Bond Lottery Challenge, played via desktop and mobile apps, as well as essential digital engagement programmes that please fans where they are, with more and more players switching to digital game entertainment.

John Schulz, Senior VP, Lottery Instant Products for Scientific Games said: “It goes without saying that the Mass Lottery has been the highest performing instant game lottery in the world for many years and continues to set the bar for lotteries around the globe. We are extremely proud of the results of this trusted business partnership over the past four decades.

“Our 2nd chance and digital services are second to none, and we look forward to further expanding Scientific Games’ services to player engagement in online/mobile channels in Massachusetts.”
