In a special virtual ceremony at SBC Digital Summit North America on Wednesday, the five industry pioneers in the Sports Betting Hall of Fame Class of 2020 were inducted.
The Sports Betting Hall of Fame honours the legends who through their careers have made an extraordinarily enduring contribution to the betting and gaming industry.
The Class of 2020 are:
- Victor Salerno, President, USBookmaking & US Fantasy Sports
- Raymond Lesniak, Former Senator New Jersey
- Roxy Roxborough, Legendary Las Vegas Oddsmaker
- Sara Slane, Former Sr. VP, American Gaming Association
- Jay Rood, COO, Bet.Works
The ceremony is a lavish event in more normal times, but current conditions have meant that the achievements of the five individuals who played such crucial roles in the development of the U.S. sports betting industry have been celebrated remotely via Zoom.
During the ceremony, Lesniak and Slane shared some of their experiences in the struggle to overthrow PASPA, while Salerno, Roxborough and Rood revealed some tales from their long and hugely influential industry careers.
Sue Schneider, Vice President for Growth and Strategy at SBC, said: “All five of these individuals thoroughly deserve the honour, as they are among the trailblazers of sports betting in the United States. From operators, legislatures, oddsmakers, and industry advocates this group also shows the depth and breadth of the overall industry within the US.”
Lesniak, Slane, Salerno and Rood were to participate in the Hall of Fame Panel at SBC Digital Summit North America on Thursday 16 July. The session would see them share their thoughts and suggestions on the major problems that the legal sports betting industry is facing as it tries to develop itself across the United States.
