On 18 December, under the management of Warth & Klein Grant Thornton AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft, which will serve as transaction advisor, a Europe-wide procurement process for the selling of the company’s shares in the WestSpiel Group was initiated.
The WestSpiel Group currently has 900 employees and four casino locations in Aachen, Bad Oeynhausen, Dortmund-Hohensyburg and Duisburg, the sole casino monopoly in North Rhine-Westphalia, as a state-licensed casino operator.
In the financial year 2019, the WestSpiel Group created gross gaming revenue of around EUR 117.2 million, attracting a total of around 900,000 visitors. Compared to the previous year this reflects a substantial increase of almost 27 percent (gross gaming revenue 2018: around EUR 92,3 million).
As a whole the community of businesses up for sale will be sold. The shares in the WestSpiel Group are currently owned by NRW.BANK, the State of North Rhine-development Westphalia’s bank.
The State Government of North Rhine-Westphalia agreed to privatise the WestSpiel Group on May 8, 2018. The law on the approval of public casinos in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which entered into force on 3 June 2020, created an important prerequisite for privatisation by authorising, for the first time, the operation of private-owned casinos in NRW.
Via a participation competition, prospective buyers from Germany and abroad will now qualify for the subsequent bid and negotiation process.
