Asia League Ice Hockey – ALIH – Playoff Finals Canceled
The Asian League Ice Hockey has decided to cancel the playoff final, which was scheduled to be held on February 29, due to concerns about the spread of the Covid-19

ALPS Hockey LeagueSeason ended early
The Alps Hockey League ended the current season early (on March 11, 2020) after the Covid-19 outbreak.
Due to the early and sudden end of the season, there will be no Alps Hockey League champion. 
We would like to thank all fans, partners, officials, and clubs for their loyalty, sensational support and strong solidarity in these difficult times, March 11th, 2020 became a sad day of Alps Hockey League history. The whole AHL family has been working intensively for months towards the highlight of the season, which we are now unable to experience. However, we are currently in an exceptional situation that affects many areas of our lives. Health is our greatest asset and we have acted accordingly wit the governments and authorities requirements in order to prevent the spread of the virus. We will do whatever we can in order to return to normality, as soon as possible” – Matjaz Rakovec chairman of the Board of Directors has said
All 18 teams confirmed that they will enter the 2020/21 season. The fifth season is scheduled to start on September 12th.

Australia: AIHL – Start of the season Delayed by Coronavirus
AIHL statement on the AIHL season and the Covid-19 –At the AIHL, we value the health and welfare of our players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and fans as our highest priority. As such and following discussion with all 8 clubs, medical advice form State and Federal Governments and observing sporting league around the world regarding the very fluid situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are postponing, for now, the start of 2020 season, originally scheduled for 18 April 2020AIHL said on their official website at March 12, 2020

Austria: EBEL – Season Canceled 
The Erste Bank Eishockey Liga has announced it is ending its current season after three quarter-final match days because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

” March 10, 2020, will be a sad da for clubs, players, match official and for the numerous fans of Erste Bank Ice Hockey League. For months all clubs have worked intensively towards the season highlight. which we can’t experience now. Because of the Coronavirus outbreak that affects many areas of our lives. Even if the decision hurts, we see it as our duty to make a contribution so that we can return to normal as quickly as possible. The decision to cancel the championship was made by the League President and clubs.  A possible restart of the championship in front of empty stands would not have been an option for us since our sport is all about emotions from the fans.” – The League announced via a release on March 10, 2020

Due to the premature termination, there will be no Champion this season. In addition to the EC Red Bull Salzburg, HCB Sudirol (Bolzano), Vienna Capitals qualified as third-placed for the chance to represents the country in the Champions Hockey League next season.
Next Season 2020/21 –  A total of 61 games will be played over nine-game days between October and February. The season starts in knockout mode. The games will start with Round 32 – Round 16 – Quarter-Finals- Semi-Finals (to-way leg). The season is scheduled to end on February 9, 2021, with one-game Final. 

Belarus: Extraleague Season Finished with Yunost Minsk as Champions
Despite the Covid-19 Belarus officials decided not to stop Extraleague and to continue playing.
When asked by a reported if the virus would stop him from Playing – Lukashenko (President of Belarus) -answered “There is no Covid-19 here, you didn’t notice them flying around, have you? This is a refrigerator, this is the best for your health. Sports, especially on ice the best medicine
Yunost Minsk were crowned champions after a dramatic win over Soligorsk in Game 5 of the best of 7 series.
According to IIHF – playoff games in Belarus went on in front public – between 800 and 2,000 fans. The final game, however, saw only 239 fans because of the Covid-19 fears kept people home, even without any lockdown orders from the officials.

Canada: CHL – Hockey Canada has cancelled all sanction activities
Statement in Response to Coronavirus (Covid-19) – The hockey Canada Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel all Hockey Canada-planed activities, including our national championships (CHL), until further notice, effective Friday, March 13, 2020. 

With that in mind, CHL President Dan MacKenzie and Commissioners David Branch, Giles Courteau along with Ron Robinson have made the decision to cancel the OHL, QMJHL, and WHL playoffs, and along with the support of Kia Canada as the presenting sponsor, to cancel 2020 Memorial Cup Which was scheduled to be held in Kelowna, B.C. May 22-31, 2020

We look with hope that next season 2020/21 will provide new opportunity to enjoy our passion, and that the Memorial Cup will be presented at our prestigious national championship, hosted by the OHL in May 2021.

Czech Republic: Extraliga Canceled remainder of the season on 12 March
After a state of emergency was announced in the Czech Republic on March 12 due to Covid-19 outbreak the original intention from the previous day to postpone the competition until March 29 could not apply.  Instead, it was decided to end this year’s Extraliga season – Zdenek HIkmund said.

The government has today (March 12, 2020) announced a state of emergency that will last for at least a month. During that time, it won’t be possible to organize hockey events, and the same applies even after March 29, so it was decided to end the current year of the Extraliga”  The Czech hockey spokesman Zdenek Zikmund has announced.

Regular season completed with Trinec on top of the league and Kladno on the bottom. Because the pandemic playoffs didn’t start meaning that there will be no new champion. Motor Ceske Budejovice won promotion to Extraliga after winning the regular season in Chance League.

Before the start of the next Extraliga season in September 2020, the fans will have something to look forward to. A new cup will take place, which will be called “The Generali Czech Cup” A Total of 16 teams will participate – Two-second division “Chance League clubs will join the 14 Extraliga participants.

The CUP games will start in four groups of four teams each on August 4. The final is scheduled for September 15 and 22. All matches will be shown on Czech Television and O2 TV Sport or via stream service.

The winner of the Generali Ceska Cup will receive a financial reward of one million korunas (Approximately 37 735 Euro). runer-up – 500 thousand korunas.

Denmark: Metal Ligaen – Season canceled, no champion will be crowned.
The Danish Metal Ligaen had to early cancel the playoffs due to the government’s recommendation to limit sports events with fans in order to stop the spread of Covid-19.

– “Following the government’s latest recommendations, we cannot see any reasonable arguments in relation to maintaining the hope of playing the playoffs this season. That is why we are canceling the playoffs” – The league Association chairman, Klaus B. Rasmussen said.

In respect of the current serious situation in society and similar to other ice hockey leagues in Europe in the same situation – The federation decided not to name Metal Ligaen champion, silver or bronze medal winners.

European participant decided:
* Regular season winner Aalborg Pirates awarded Champions Hockey League seat.
* Sonderjykse secured their Champions Hockey League spot after they won the Continental Cup in January.
* Metal Final 4 winner Frederikshavn White Hawks have qualified for next season Continental Cup

Best case scenario to start next season September 18,
with all 48 rounds scheduled to be played in front of fans.

Estonia: Meistriliiga Season canceled on March 13 
The board of the Estonian Hockey Association held an exceptional meeting on March 13 in which they decided that the current season will be considered over. As a result, The Women Hockey championship, youth, and children leagues have ended. The Meistriliga regular season finished before the outbreak with Tartu Kalev-Valk as champions. Cup winners will not be determined.

Closing the Estonian championship was a very difficult decision, but in order to protect people’s health, we will cancel our unplayed games this season. Thank you all for the current season” – Rauno Parras, the President of The Estonian Hockey Association said.

Finland: LiigaSeason ended prematurely – without a champion
The season ended earlier on March 13 after meeting and a vote from the league’s shareholders.

Regular season matches will not be played, as will the playoffs and finals. No champion will be named. CHL and Spengler Cup places will be divided according to the current – Regular season rankings.

  • It’s also clear that the League and the League clubs will suffer huge financial losses, but as President Niinstok said – “The economy is just an economy” Heikki Hiltunen, the Chairman of the Board of the League has said.

The league is preparing for the new season in mid-September with 60-matches regular season set to be played.

France: Ligue Magnus Season canceled, with no champion crowned. 
On March 17, The Board of Directors of the French Ice Hockey Federation has decided to stop all championships in France, including Magnus League. There will be no champion title or relegations for the current season.

Following the latest government decision, the containment measures and the suspension for any kind of public activities (indoor) including to at least April 15 at least, it seems impossible to resume competitions” – said the Federation in a press release.

Grenoble will play in Champions League next season because of their 1st position in the table at the end of the regular season. Amiens will play the Continental Cup after they won the Coupe de France.

Germany: DELCancelled rest of the season on March 10
German Ice Hockey league ends season Prematurely – 2020 Playoffs won’t take place/ No Champion will be crowned for 2019/2020 season
The German Ice Hockey League (DEL) is forced to end the current season early with immediate effect. The reason for this is the ban to hold large events such as DEL games with more than 1000 spectators. The DEL also follows the official recommendations of Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Minister of Health Jens Spahn, which have now been implemented in the official’s bans.

We are extremely sorry for all clubs, partners and especially for the fans all over Germany that we have to make this decision. However, given the current developments, we have a duty to deal responsibly with the situation. We at DEL value more than everything the health of our fans, players, and employees” – Said Gernot Tripcke, chief executive of DEL.

Due to the premature end of the season, there will be no champion this year. As the regular-season winner, the EHC Red Bull Munich, together with the Adler Mannheim, Straubing Tigers, and the Eisbaren Berlin will represent DEL in the Champions Hockey League (CHL 2020/21)

All 14 clubs of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) have submitted their documents for the licensing procedure for the 2020/2021 season.

Italy: Serie ASeason canceled on early March
At first, the season was postponed and finally canceled due to Covid-19 pandemic, which also affected all sports activities in Italy, the only titles awarded will be the Scudetto and the Italian Cup, awarded in January. The Alps Hockey League, Italian Hockey League along (IHL) with the Italian Hockey League Division 1 have been canceled without naming a champion.

Italian Hockey League – Serie A / AHL – The championship was won by Asiago.
Italian Cup – The 2019/2020 Italian Cup final four was played on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 in January at the Meran Arena (Merano).
Four teams qualified for the final phase – HC Merano, HC Varese, Hockey PErgine Sapiens, and HC Valp Eagle. The Italian Cup was won by Merano, which won the right to play the next Italian Super Cup against the winner of the – Italian Hockey league – Serie A (Asiago).

Latvia: LHLSeason canceled on March 13
Due to the declared state of emergency in the country, the Latvia Hockey Federation (LHF) decided to cancel the 2019/2020 Optibet Hockey League (OHL) elimination tournament after a meeting that took place on March 13

On March 18, the LHF Board made the following decisions:
1. To grant HS Riga technical loss due to non-attendance
2. To declared HK “Olimp” the winner of the first round of the Latvian Championship – Optibet Hockey LEague and to award them with the respective award – Cup Winner’s
3. Because of the state of emergency, the LHB Board decided no to play OHL second round (Playoff games) in the 2019/20 season the title will not be awarded and medals won’t be given.

New Zealand – NZIHL Season Suspended until further notice.
The New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation has made the decision to suspend the 2020 season start until further notice. 

The season was scheduled to start with pre-season games in April, with the regular season set to start between May and July, followed by play-offs series.

The decision to suspend the 2020 season was not made easy, however, the health and safety of all players, volunteers, and fans during the Covid-19 pandemic is much more important.

Noway: Get-LigaenCancelled rest of the season on March 11
The Norwegian Ice Hockey Federation decided to cancel all leagues on March 11 with immediate effect.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and the danger to people’s health, NIHF has decided that all hockey activities are canceled with immediate effect for the rest of the season. This means that the playoffs both Men and Women leagues are canceled, as well as qualifying games between the divisions.

President Tage Pettersen has told that this has been a very difficult but correct decision to make for the Norwegian Ice Hockey.

Poland: PLHCancelled remainder of the season on March 11
The season ended earlier after unanimous decision –
“We came to such a solution for the sake of supporters, players, and the whole hockey family” – Says Mirosalw Minkina, president of the Polish Hockey Association.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak
and following the recommendations of the Prime Minister of the Republic, Minister of Sport and the Chief Sanitary Inspector, the authorities of the Polish Hockey League in consultation with all clubs participating in the semi-finals have decided to end all remaining games.
Because 2019/2020 PHL matches ended prematurely (before the start of the semi-finals of the playoffs) due to Coronavirus pandemic. Based on the rules the federation decided to end the current season in March and to award medal places to clubs that advanced to the play-off semi-finals according to the points they obtained from the clubs in the playoffs and quarter-finals of the regular season.

Romania: Campionatul NationalSeason canceled, without a champion
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the state of emergency established in Romania, the Romania Hockey Federation decided to cancel all national championships organized by FRHG for the 2019/2020 season. Championatul National will not have a winner. 

At the time of the stop of the National Campionatul – CSM Galati was on top of the battle with 73 points from 26 matches
with just a point more from the second SC Csikszereda.

Russia: KHL Cancelled the remainder of the 2019-2020 season.
On March 25, the Russian-based cross-border Kontinental Hockey League has decided to cancel its season as the last big European league to do so.

The KHL decided to pause the playoffs after the last game from the conference quarter-finals, the Moscow derby Spartak v Dynamo, with the hope to restart with the eight remaining Gagarin Cup participants in the mid-April.

Unfortunately we have to finish the season earlier than planned. This decision was not easy. I’m sure that all fans together with us wanted to see the final battle of the Gagarin Cup. However, in this situation, the health of players and their loves owners, club employees, employees of competition facilities, and of course the fans are much more important ” Said Alexei Morozov the president of KHL.

The KHL was the last of the big or leagues in Europe to cancel the season without declaring a champion

The Expected date for the 2020/2021 season is September 2. The date has been agreed with the Russian Hockey Federation but remains conditional on the easing of the current restrictions in Russia and the other countries represented in the KHL.

Slovakia: Tipsport LigaSeason is ended prematurely without naming a champion
Tipsport Liga clubs had a meeting on March 11, in order to decide the future of the 2019/2020 hockey season. After a vote, the clubs decided to end the season earlier and not to crown a champion.

Slovenia: IHL – Season ended early due to Covid-19 pandemic
The Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the HZS decided to stop all hockey competitions for the current 2019/2020 season immediately on March 12, 2020. – The federation decided.

As the situation with the virus does not allow the competition to continue, the technical director of the HZS, Jure Penko proposed to the officials that the final ranking in the competition under HZS auspices to be adopted as final.

Spain: LNHHPlayoffs are set to be completed in September
After a meeting the RFEDH it was decided that both final phases will be held in September, as long as the authorities allow.
The RFEDH has approved a regulation amendment for the Playoff Final fo the current 2019/2020 season for the National Lotter League and the Iberdrola Ice Hockey League, according to which the two finals will be held in September.

In the LNHH Loterias, CG Puigcerda and CHH Txuri Urdin will compete for the title. The playoff will be shortened for the best of three games, instead of five as planned.

In the Iberdrola League – SAD Majadahonda and Valdemoro IT will resume their fight for the title. The final was interrupted after Majadahonda took the lead.

Swedish Hockey League (SHL) decided to cancel the remaining to its season after previously postponed the for an unknown period of time.

We all have a responsibility to limit the spread of the virus in our society and it is obvious that we at SHL should take our responsibility for our audience and the working environment for players and employees. It is an extremely sad decision but obviously required in the current circumstancesThe CEO of SHL, Michael Marchal said.

Switzerland: National LeagueSeason canceled before playoffs due to Covid-19 concerns
Switzerland’s top hockey league – National League, has announed it is ending Its top two divisions in the country National League and Swiss League due to safety measures.
It was decided in a meeting that took place on March 13 that 2019-29 will not have a champion.

In addition to the decision not to declare ZSC Lions champions, which finished on top of the table in the regular season, as a champion for the current season, the federation also agreed on not to promote EHC Kloten and EHC Visp, which submitted a request for the promotion.

No relegation from the National League and Swiss League, the promotion remains possible, a new mode with pre-playoffs and solidarity games – the club’s representatives of the Nationa League and Swiss league have decided as part of the extraordinary league meeting on Monday to make various changes for the upcoming season.

It was also determined that the 5 best -Placed Nationa League teams in the regular season: ZSC Lions, EV Zuc, HC Davos, Geneve-Servette, and EHC Biel, are qualified for the next Champions Hockey League.

Turkey: Super LeagueSeason completed Buz Beykoz Sports Club won League
Ice Hockey Super League season 2019/2020 was completed with Buz Beykoz Sports Club as champions.

After meeting with Zeytinburnu BSK, the champion of the past 5 seasons in the final series, the Buz Beykoz team became the champion after winning with 4-2 in the final match of the final series.

The Silver Medals went for Zeytinburnu Istanbul and the bronze medal for Buz Adamlar

Ukraine: UHL Playoffs  set to be completed in September
The decisive matches of the season will be held in September. The Ukrainian Hockey League championship, like almost all sports in the world, paused due to the Covid-19 outbreak. on March 17, the 2019/2020 season was suspended.

The matches of the quarter-finals of the playoffs are scheduled for September and will be without spectators. The participants are: Kremenchuk, Donbas, Dnipro and Bely Bars

The First match of the Finals will take place two days after the end of the last series of 1/2 final, but no later than September 16.

Based on the information above, the final of the UHL championship – Pari-Match for 2019/200 season will be held on September 16-17, September 20-21, and if needed – matches will also be held on September 23, 25 and 27. If semi-final series ends after 4-6 matches, the final series will begin earlier as well.

Next season is scheduled to start on September 30. 

United Kingdom: Elite LeagueSeason ended earlier without a champion
Elite League club owners have agreed to end the season 2019/20 early. Because the season did not reach its conclusion, it has been decided that no league trophy will be awarded and no national champion will be crowned for 2019/20

However, it was decided that Cardiff Devils, as the team on top of the table and with the highest winning percentage of 70 % to play in Champions Hockey League next season.

With the title race as close as it was and five teams realistically still able to win the league, we felt that awarding a league trophy on the basis of probabilities just was not the correct thing to do” – Mike Hick, Head of Hockey operations has said. 

We are in the position of not having finished the regular season and the decision not to declare a national champion is consistent with the precedent across all of Europe’s top leagues, most of which were canceled before the conclusion of their playoffs, it also follows a similar decision in the sport’s history

2. Top Goal Scorer – Luke Ferrera (Coventry Blaze) – 33 goals
3. Top Assists – Janne Laakkonen (Coventry Blaze) – 40 assists

USA: NHL – NHL Season would not be finished, with a return to play plan announced. 
The NHL announed it will pause the current 2019/20 season due to the Covid-19 pandering on March 12, 2020. The season was put on hold with the Bruins on top of the table. On May 26, 2020, it was announed that the regular season would not be finished. 

The NHL paused the regular season on March 12, due to safety concerns because of the Covid-19. It was decided that the remaining 189 games will not be completed. The 12 qualifying teams from the Eastern and Western Conferences were determined by points percentage as of that date. Seven teams did not qualify.

I want to make it clear that the health and safety of our players, coaches, essential support staff and our communities are paramount”  Commissioner Garry Bettmann has said while he announced the Return To Play Plan

NHL plans to return with 24 teams competing for Stanley Cup 
The competition will start from Qualifying round, and round-robin games in two hub cities, date not determined yet.
The NHL announed their plan to return to Play on Tuesday, 23 May with 24 teams in competition for the Stanley Cup.

The Tournament will begin with 16 teams, eight-series QF round, and Seeding Round Robin among the top four teams in each conference to determine seeds for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Commissioner said the decision on the hub cities and when will begin will depend on Covid-19 conditions, testing ability, and government regulations

CHL Draw for 2020/21

CHL announed the full list of competitors for their next season on 28 April 2020. The full 32 teams draw was completed yesterday, June 3, 2020. 
In a seeded draw held in Zurich, CHL CEO Martin Baumann and PResident Peter Zahner drew out 32 teams, 16 from Pot 1 and 16 from Pot 2, to decide the Round of 32 Match-ups. Check them all below:

In the 2020/21 CHL season, 61 games are scheduled to be played, for nine-game days between October and February. The season will start with knockout Round of 32, which will comprise two-game (home and away)aggregate-scoring series up to the Semi-Finals. The season culminates on 9, February 2021 with the one-game Final to determine the Winner.

The opening games are scheduled to take place on 6 and 7 October 2020, with the second games a week later on the 13 and 14.
