Penn Treaty Special Services District Receives SugarHouse Casino’s Annual $1m Donation

At the Penn Treaty SSD Community Service Awards earlier this month, Philadelphia’s SugarHouse Casino made its $1 m yearly donation to the Penn Treaty Special Services District.

With this most recent donation, SugarHouse’s total donations to the Penn Treaty since 2009 amounts to $7.7 million and has been used to help inhabitants of Old Richmond, Fishtown, South Kensington and Northern Liberties.

The Penn Treaty SSD utilises casino money to support group operations and create physical changes to gardens and other infrastructure, as well as to provide economic help to a variety of local organisations.

Rob Long, general manager of SugarHouse Casino said: “As a proud community partner, SugarHouse is honoured to continue working with the Penn Treaty SSD. The organisation has been instrumental in improving our surrounding communities, and we’re honoured to contribute to its mission.”

Penn Treaty SSD honored three people and the Kensington Soccer Club for their outstanding service to the neighbourhoods surrounding the casino at the presentation ceremony.

Matt Ruben, Northern Liberties Neighbour’s Association president, Bea Rider, Olde Richmond Civic Association’s Green Streets coordinator and Pat Cain, who was posthumously honoured as the founder of We Care Soccer Camp, were all recognised

The Kensington Soccer Club offers a increasing amount of kids from 51 distinct high schools throughout the town, with year-round programs.

The association operates with different grassroots and society organisations, while at the same time supporting its gender equality strategy to guarantee equal opportunities for youthful females throughout each program level.

“We’re honoured to recognise these leaders and organisations in the community, who have spent countless hours making our neighbourhoods a better place to live,” added Rick Angeli, Penn Treaty Special Services District board chairman. “We’d also like to thank SugarHouse Casino for its ongoing support and commitment.”

Each winner of the prize was lauded with their corresponding organisation for numerous hours of volunteering and earned a City of Philadelphia citation from Mayor Jim Kenney.
