During Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup, SG Digital handled a record-breaking amount of bets for its OpenSports clients, despite the most popular annual thoroughbred horse race in Australia taking place behind closed doors.
For SG Digital, the digital division of Scientific Games, OpenSports is the full package sportsbook solution, with wagers processed via the OpenBet betting engine.
There were twice the amount of bets during the entire Melbourne Cup Carnival compared to the 2019 event, with a 100 percent increase in stakes for the flagship race, won by Twilight Payment.
An rise of 75 percent from last year, OpenSports handled a peak of over 61,000 bets per minute. The sportsbook solution is used by some of the world’s leading operators, including the Australian brand Sportsbet from Flutter Entertainment.
