Online Poker Searches Rocket During Lockdown

During Covid-19 lockdown restrictions put in place in the UK, the number of Google searches for online poker has rocketed.

In 2020, search volumes rose by more than 3,000 percent year-on-year, according to a study from Pi Datametrics.

The study saw specific growth in searches for “play poker with friends online,” an opportunity that operators such as PokerStars, which built private tables so that consumers could play with friends, picked up.

Pi Datametrics noted that “virtual grand national” and “online slot games” search volumes have also risen significantly in 2020.

A 46 percent rise in smartphone use since 2019 has also been reported by analysts. The number of monthly active smartphone users in the UK will hit 61.06 million by 2024, they estimate.
