Police in the Anhui Province of Eastern China said Monday that nine suspects involved in an online gambling case were recently arrested.
Police in Chuzhou City got a tip-off last year from a local resident who had gambled more than 600,000 yuan (68,000GBP) on an online gambling website. The police then initiated an inquiry into the website and the flow of the funds.
Following the enquiry the police discovered a trans-provincial gambling gang with more than 10 billion yuan,NL the case involving more than 10,000 gamblers.
Anhui police initiated raids in Beijing, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of southern China, and the Henan Province of central China from March to September, arresting nine suspects.
Police said gamblers were attracted by suspects through a famous online instant messaging service. More than 50 million yuan had been illegally gained by the gang.
