After deciding to return to the start-up space, Simon Collins has stepped down from his position as managing director of Betting & Gaming at News UK.
In November 2019, Collins was named MD for the gaming division of the British newspaper publisher, where he managed brands including Dream Team, Sun Bingo, and Sun Racing, The Sun’s fantasy football game.
Gaming Realms Founder
In 2018, he co-founded online gaming supplier Gaming Realms, and more than 20 years ago he founded Cashcade, which was best known as Foxy Bingo.
Cashcade was sold for £ 90 million to PartyGaming, while Collins remained at bwin.party, concentrating on creativity, research and development as well as overseeing Cashcade’s brands’ social side. Up until April 2011, he held this position.
After Collins’ departure, Sun general manager Jo Bucci will supervise the betting and gaming division of the news brand, with the portfolio also covering Sun Vegas, Sun Win and Sun Play.
Bucci will also assume the role of running the Dream Team, the largest commercial fantasy football game in the United Kingdom, with over a million unique players.
Most popular gaming products
Collins, speaking upon his departure, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at News UK. It’s been a pleasure to work with such a talented team to develop some of the most popular gaming products in the UK environment – from Dream Team to Sun Bingo.
“That said, my roots – and my heart – lay in the start up space, and the lure of the new opportunities there was just too strong.”
Jo Bucci, General Manager of The Sun, will fulfill the outgoing MD’s duties, including the task of overseeing the Dream Team.
Scott Taunton, CEO of Wireless said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Simon for his hard work and entrepreneurialism over the last year.
“Simon has led the Betting & Gaming team during an important phase, focusing on new product development alongside driving strong revenues in this space.”
