Newcastle United Transfer Specials Odds

The January transfer window looks set to be an enormous time for Newcastle United, who are currently staring relegation to the Championship in the face.

Currently 19th in the Premier League and the only team without a win in the division after 11 games, the sacking of Steve Bruce was inevitable in the end and this weekend will see Eddie Howe take charge of his first game.

Newcastle face Brentford at St. James’ Park in a game that certainly looks winnable on paper given the Bees’ run of four consecutive defeats in the Premier League. Still, even if they were to pick up a string of positive results off the back of Howe’s arrival, there is no doubt this is a squad that is starving for investment.

This is especially the case when it comes to their defensive options, many of which are the same as what they had when they won promotion from the Championship back in 2017. The investment is ready and waiting from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, leading to plenty of talk surrounding who Newcastle could splash their newly-found cash on in January.

There is a reported budget of around £200m ready to spend and there are already a number of players being linked with a move to St. James’ Park. Paddy Power have opened a market for punters to bet on players that they think could join Newcastle before February 3rd 2022.

Who Could Join Newcastle?

The same names are regularly linked with a move to Newcastle in the gossip columns, with the most likely at this stage appearing to be Burnley defender James Tarkwowski. He is currently the odds-on favourite of all players to sign for Newcastle at 6/5 and the centre-back, who has two caps for England, would make a big difference to the team.

Following him in the betting ranks is another England international in Jesse Lingard. Lingard resurrected his career with a January loan move to West Ham last season but has returned to being a squad player at Manchester United. He is available at 6/4 to join Newcastle and become a regular first-team player in the Premier League again to boost his World Cup hopes.

Nathan Ake is firmly fourth choice centre-back at Manchester City and could be tempted for a reunion with Howe, who he played the best football of his career under at Bournemouth and has also played alongside Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson. It may be tough to convince the Dutchman to swap Champions League football and a Premier League title challenge for a relegation scrap, but the 26-year-old is still priced at 7/2 to link up with Howe again.

When it comes to bigger names, there are odds of 6/1 available for Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, while Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, who is out of favour at club level, is 12/1.

Another out of favour player who may be itching for a return to the Premier League is Juventus and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The 30-year-old has played just five times for the Serie A club this season, four of which have been substitute appearances. He is the profile of player that Newcastle may identify as a realistic target in January and is priced at 7/1.
