The NBA will continue to use Genius Sports and Sportradar as lead distributors for bookmakers and wagering-related operations to sustain its current data supplier agreement for the global sports betting market.
As joint lead distributors of NBA and WNBA data for regulated sports betting markets, operators and technology platforms, Genius and Sportradar will continue to operate.
In its announcement, the NBA claimed that, after the federal repeal of PASPA rules, it saw no need to modify its current structure by providing exclusive service to a data provider as Genius and Sportradar had supplied a combined 20 partnerships.
Scott Kaufman-Ross, NBA Senior VP for Fantasy Sports and Gaming, endorsed the strategic move, adding that by establishing a two-fold supplier agreement, NBA achieved the highest coverage and credibility agreements.
Kaufman-Ross said: “Over the past two seasons, Sportradar and Genius Sports Group have been sources for official NBA betting data, which is crucial for authorised gaming operators and ultimately fans who engage with NBA and WNBA games through betting.
“The US sports betting industry has recognised the value of official data, particularly for in-play betting, and these extensions will ensure operators continue to have access to our real-time feed as sports betting develops throughout the US.”
Following last week’s announcement that Genius will seek a New York Exchange listing relationship with ‘special-purpose acquisition firm’ dMY Technology, interest in the global sports data market has increased significantly.
The latest announcement in a truly historic week for Genius Sports Group.
By extending our official betting data partnership with the @NBA we will provide sportsbooks & their customers with the fastest, most accurate live data. @Sportico #sportbiz #NBA https://t.co/6lOM5YEH0d
