The most important consideration for German players selecting a bookmaker is a wide variety of sports and betting leagues, finds a survey of users on MySportwetten.de, but members of the same odds comparison platform are mostly uninterested in playing online casino.
Leadstar Media brand MySportwetten completed the survey as the German sports betting market bounces back from COVID-19 to understand more about its affiliated players.
The non-representative survey was conducted among MySportwetten community members which includes over 11,000 users on their Facebook page.
After wagering on the widest variety of leagues and sports, it emerged that a good cash-out feature was the second most important factor for German players who choose a bookmaker, followed by the most favourable odds.
Still very high up in the ranking, the survey finds, is confidence in the bookmaker, a well-designed betting app and the lack of a betting tax for players.
German players have to pay 5 percent tax on each bet since July 2012, but some bookies, such as market leader Tipico, use this betting tax as a sports bonus and pay the tax on behalf of the customer, resulting in more competitive odds.
Nevertheless, the survey was not limited to the players’ most relevant characteristics, but also those who aren’t interested as much. For example, MySportwetten community members aren’t really interested in playing in an online casino – even if it’s part of an offer from a bookmaker.
Likewise, live streaming was not considered essential, as was the variety of payment methods generally, although PayPal was emphasised as a valuable addition.
