Flutter Entertainment’s Betfair Australia has confirmed that, despite not being sanctioned by the Jockey Club, it will launch a new betting exchange on horse races in Hong Kong.
Betfair Australia is set to start on 1 September, coinciding with the start of the 2019-20 Hong Kong racing season, offering exchange punters the opportunity to wager bets on both Sha Tin and Happy Valley meetings.
“For several years, our punters have been asking for hong kong racing and we’ve been working on it for just as long,” said Tim Moore-Barton, Chief Executive of Betfair Australia. “Today I’m really excited to allow punters to legally bet against each other on some of the world’s best horse racing.” Moore-Barton stressed, addressing the launch of the exchange, that the exchange integrity will not be compromised. He pointed out that fears of such an event are pointless, as Betfair Australia will provide stewards with access to comprehensive data about who bets on what to help police the sport, distinguishing themselves from illegal exchanges.
“We have a world-class level of transparency with racing stewards,” said Moore-Barton.
In Australia the Flemington control room is equipped with BetMon–a live alert monitor, a custom Betfair product that allows you to access all transactions in real time. Indeed, that level of transparency is what the racing bodies need and want.
“Nearly every racing body in Australia and around the world that has access to the integrity tools we provide say it’s a key part of building the big picture together in their fight to keep the sport clean.”
