The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) and Mohawk Online Limited (MOL) have reported that the Kahnawà: ke Economic Relief Measures Fund will receive a major boost in its efforts to support the city during the COVID-19 crisis. MOL has announced an immediate dividend worth $1 million to MCK, all of which will go to the Fund.
MOL, operator of the egaming brand Sports Interaction, was founded by the MCK to provide socio-economic benefits to the Kahnawà: ke group. This dividend’s declaration is, it said, perfectly aligned with its mandate to bring socio-economic benefits to the Kahnawà: ke community, particularly during a time of urgent need.
Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton said: “Mohawk Online contributes millions of dollars a year to Kahnawà:ke’s public finances.
“These emergency funds from Mohawk Online will be of tremendous assistance to help community members with their health, safety and economic needs. MCK is grateful to Mohawk Online’s Board of Directors for its unanimous and unequivocal support.”
CEO Dean Montour said: “Mohawk Online was formed to provide economic benefits for the community of Kahnawà:ke. We are proud to be part of the ongoing efforts being made to assist community members during this difficult time in our history. This is why we do what we do.”
Once the emergency dividend was declared, MOL sought legal and financial advice to ensure that the dividend did not adversely impact the solvency of the company and MOL remained a concern.
