Mario Kontomerkos, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), has announced that he will step down on March 31, 2021. Ray Pineault, Chief Operating Officer (COO), will serve as Acting Chief Executive Officer awaiting regulatory filings or approvals.
James Gessner, Jr., Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe said: “During his tenure with the organisation, first as Chief Financial Officer and more recently as CEO, Mario played a critical role in the growth and success of the organisation.”
“We thank Mario for his many years of service to the Tribe and MGE, more recently navigating the company successfully through the ongoing global pandemic as well as a major refinancing earlier this year. We wish Mario all the best in his future endeavours and opportunities.”
COO Ray Pineault to assist as interim
He added: “While we conduct a search for a new CEO, we are thankful for Tribal member and MGE COO Ray Pineault, who will assist as Interim CEO. Ray has served his Tribe for over two decades in various roles and capacities, and we look forward to his continued guidance and experience as we search for a new corporate leader.”
Pineault has been with MGE for over 20 years, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer since July 2020. He was also President and General Manager of MGE’s flagship property, Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, as well as Regional President.
Carol Anderson, MGE’s new Chief Financial Officer, will bring a wealth of experience and insight to her new position, which will help the company navigate through this time of strategic transformation and expansion.
“Carol’s experience will be key in continuing to promote MGE as a worldwide industry leader in integrated resort entertainment and assisting to steer the organization through this next chapter of development and growth,” Gessner said. “We are thrilled to have Carol join the MGE team to further support our efforts throughout the U.S. and abroad.”
Ms. Anderson will have strategic guidance in global capital markets, business strategy and research, and the advancement and execution of global integrated finance and accounting practises, frameworks, and services. She has a range of financial and legal expertise. Anderson will collaborate closely with leaders around the company to provide a solid foundation that promotes operational unity, competitiveness, performance, and reliability, focusing on corporate finance and accounting, treasury processes and cash management, financial markets activities, SEC reporting, controls, compliance, and procurement.
Ms. Anderson joins MGE from Scientific Games Corporation, where she most recently worked as Senior Vice President, Finance, Capital Markets, and Associate General Counsel. Carol was a Project Manager at Williams and Associates, PC, an Associate.
