Mohamed Salah Already 4/5 Favourite To Win PFA Player Of The Year

Mohamed Salah’s post-match interview in the aftermath of Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Everton highlighted his relentless mentality even further.

He was asked about finishing 7th in the recent Ballon d’Or voting, to which he replied with a chuckle and a quick “no comment”. But it was perhaps what he said after that was more poignant, if not as snippet-worthy, in which he said his main ambition was to win both the Premier League and Champions League for Liverpool this season.

Salah has never been shy in revealing his own confidence and belief in himself and his team. He recently captioned an Instagram post shortly after his side’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City with: “We really wanted to win this one but we’re still in the game. We’re going for the title and we have what it takes.”

It is that mentality that has led him to this fantastic start to the season that he is currently enjoying and he will only use that Ballon d’Or setback as further fuel to his fire to achieve as many accolades as possible.

He has scored an extremely impressive 13 goals in 14 Premier League appearances this term, while also chipping in with a further eight assists. In the Champions League, he has netted six times in five games in what was initially considered to be the ‘group of death’ alongside AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Porto. He has helped Liverpool brush that group aside by winning all of their first five group games as they qualified for the knockout stages with two games to spare.

As such, it is no surprise to see that Bet365 have made Salah the overwhelming favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award come the end of the season, currently being priced at 4/5 with still two thirds of the season left to play. That leaves him some way out in front of the rest of the pack and it is extremely difficult to argue against.

He is leading both the scoring and assists charts in the Premier League, with the latter being something of a surprise when you consider that he is just two assists shy of his career-best total of 10 in a whole Premier League season after just 14 matches. Salah even sits one ahead of assist king Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is enjoying an excellent season of their own.

He, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane have all combined to score 28 of Liverpool’s 43 goals in the Premier League this season and the team have bagged four goals in each of their last three league outings.

Barring injury or a dramatic loss of form, it’s difficult to see anybody catching Salah and preventing him from winning his second PFA Player of the Year award, having won his first in his first season at Anfield.

He would also join an illustrious list of players to win the award twice alongside Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Kevin De Bruyne. Salah’s mentality will absolutely see him target becoming the first player to win three PFA Player of the Year awards.

The four closest players to him all currently play in Manchester, with both of City’s De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva being priced at 12/1. The next two in contention are both 14/1 contenders, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Phil Foden in with a chance.
