MGM Resorts International has further reiterated its corporate contribution to anti-human trafficking efforts, with the property of Northfield, Ohio, providing $10,000 to a local task force.
This week, MGM Northfield Park will donate the sum to the Summit County Sheriff’s Human Trafficking and Prostitution Division, a task force led by Captain Scott Cottle.
The donation will enable victims to have access to health care and counselling through the Summit County Coalition Against Human Trafficking and help to further equip the Department of Sheriffs with the tools they need to educate and protect the public.
Matt Buckley, President and COO of MGM Northfield Park, who will be presenting the cheque on Wednesday, February 19, said: “We recognise the need to combat the issue of human trafficking in our communities. We appreciate the opportunity to support law enforcement in this ongoing effort to assist victims and their families.”
The Office of the Summit County Sheriff in conjunction with the Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking provides communities with educational resources on warning signs of trafficking in human beings.
Besides the $10,000 donation, MGM Northfield Park is also to provide employee training on recognising signs of potential human trafficking. Over the month of February, MGM staff have contributed to a fundraising drive to help support organisations to aid victims of human trafficking and prostitution with the resources they need.
Cottle, who will accept the Summit County Sheriff’s Department donation, added: “On behalf of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit County Human Trafficking Coalition, we thank MGM Northfield Park for supporting us in this important effort.”
The latest move follows MGM Resorts signing ECPAT’s Code of Conduct on Tourism Child-Protection, a worldwide network of organisations working to end child sexual exploitation.
ECPAT funds victim centres and law enforcement training, performs a wide range of human trafficking studies to inform policy making and advocates for reform with legislatures, industry and other organisations in society.
