For the 2020 Nevada Governor’s Points of Light Awards for ‘Corporate and Business Volunteer Program of the Year’, MGM Resorts International took first place in the gold category.
The Governor’s Points of Light Awards Ceremony is regarded as the most prestigious event in Nevada for volunteer appreciation, honouring the brightest volunteers and charitable organisations in the country. It is the premier and sole event for volunteerism and service in state recognition.
Nominations are received from around the state and a judging panel with members from rural, northern and southern Nevada, non-profit and corporate organisations, national service initiatives and the network of voluntary managers evaluates each nomination.
In response to the award, MGM notes that it “focuses on what matters and believes that every individual has the power to make communities stronger and to deliver an impact when it comes to positive social change through volunteerism”.
Via its ‘Feeding Forward’ campaign, corporate targets for 2025 include donating five million meals and surpassing one million voluntary hours in the community.
Jyoti Chopra, chief people, inclusion and sustainability officer for MGM Resorts International said:
“Against the backdrop of the current global pandemic crisis, it is important, more than ever, to uphold our company values, exhibit kindness and to do what is best for our local communities. Our world is changing rapidly, and many people are facing uncertainty, but together we can strive to help those in need.
“MGM Resorts is proud to be considered a top company for this civic recognition for corporate citizenship and we will continue to care for one another through our time, energy and resources within the communities in which we operate.”
In October 2001, Nevada’s Governor’s Points of Light Awards ceremony was inaugurated. Since then, the exceptional voluntary efforts of Nevadans throughout the state have been celebrated, highlighting geographic impacts along with private and public collaborations in the non-profit and corporate sector.
