The interim government of Bolivia announces the appointment of Juan Carlos Antonio Abrego as the new Director General of the Gaming Control Authority of Bolivia (AJ Bolivia).

The appointment of Abrego was confirmed by the Bolivian Minister of Economic Affairs, Jose Luis Parada, who held an official ceremony at the offices of AJ Bolivia in La Paz.

Minister Parada emphasised that the appointment of Abrego should aim to provide ‘transparency to the technical implementation of systems and of suitable professionals regulating the Bolivian gambling’.

Addressing media, Abrego further stated that Bolivian can learn from other countries to better manage gambling services in order to generate new employment sources.

The economy and political landscape of Bolivia has been shaken by months of protests against the interim government following the controversial departure from power of former President Evo Morales, who was charged in October with unconstitutional campaigns to change the Constitution of Bolivia, and allowing him to run for a fourth term as President.

Assuming AJ Bolivia’s leadership, Abrego said he would support the development of new projects and companies that could contribute to the country’s economic growth.

“With the help of all colleagues we have to carry out an absolutely transparent task, that is our commitment,” he said. “There will be transparency in each and every one of the processes that are carried out in this institution. I want to thank the Minister of Economy and President Jeanine Añez for her trust.”
