A new decree published in the Official Gazette this month will enable the Loteria Mineira (LEMG) in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais to broaden its product portfolio.
Governor Romeu Zema supports the bill, which allows the Loteria Mineira to operate new lottery options such as passive games, numerical lotteries, sports prediction lotteries, instant lotteries, and fixed-odds betting lotteries (sports betting).
The regulatory update, according to local news outlet BNL Data, modernises LEMG’s offering in compliance with the provisions of Law No. 13,758 of December 12, 2018, which allows for the use of all lottery modalities.
Betting, electronic gaming through physical and digital operations, online gambling, and “online-real time” gaming are all examples of this.
The regulation also describes a “lottery game” as any event, game, or bet that can result in a cash or goods prize as a “forecast contest.”
Supreme Court decision
The Minas Gerais lottery is one of the first Brazilian organisations to discuss sports betting operations and take advantage of the Supreme Court decision, which forbids a state-exclusive monopoly on offering and regulating the gaming and betting industries.
Intralot do Brasil Trade in Equipment and Computer Programs Ltda (Intralot), Thorsborg do Brasil Consultoria em Tecnologia Ltda, and International Gaming Technology Brasil Data Services (IGT) – Scientific Games Brasil Ltda are currently vying for the licences to run these games that LEMG will grant.
As part of the decision-making process to determine which operator will operate the state lottery services, bidders have been given 45 days to send reports, surveys, analysis, data, technical details, projects, and opinions.
