One of the largest online gaming providers in New Jersey has made a push to enter the iGaming market in Michigan.
Golden Nugget Online Gaming has entered into an agreement with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community to provide online gaming options to Michigan through the Ojibwa Casino, Golden Nugget announced in a news release Thursday.
It is not known when the online gaming products Golden Nugget will be available in Michigan for players. Late in 2019, the state legalised video gaming and online poker with an plan to trigger the games at some stage this year.
In December 2019, the Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed into law both sports betting and video gaming. Revenue from iGaming and sports betting is allocated to the School Aid Fund and the First Responder Presumed Coverage Fund in order to benefit first responders who have developed certain types of cancer as well as the general population of students.
Since then, the State has been introducing bettors options. For example, legal sports betting in Michigan started on March 11 at the three commercial emporiums in Detroit-Greektown Casino, MotorCity Casino, and MGM Grand Detroit. Within days, however, the coronavirus pandemic shut down all those casinos and the sporting events people came to bet on there.
In May, the Michigan Gaming Control Board started accepting supplier licencing forms for online gaming, a step towards making the games open to State residents or tourists within the geofencing of the state.
The report from Michigan is part of the continued growth of the online gaming industry in America. This week, when DraftKings launched its line of iGaming options in the State, West Virginia became the fourth state with online gaming options.
Golden Nugget Online Gaming, recently acquired by owner Tillman Fertitta of Houston Rockets, announced in June that it would go public on the Nasdaq exchange.
Golden Nugget is the New Jersey market’s largest supplier of games and has plans to broaden its online gaming footprint in states where and when the activity is legal.
Golden Nugget agreed to a contract with Scientific Games in New Jersey and Pennsylvania this February to supply SG ‘s goods.
