German To Implement New Online Gaming Regulations

Germany is planning to introduce a new licencing system for online slots, a proposal to be used when it comes to commercial operators. New policies will be put in place to encourage social responsibility among operators, as well as help reduce the damage associated with gambling.

The time frame set for the new rules to come into effect is July 2021. From there, it is possible to issue new licences. A policy which encourages transitional tolerance will be in place until July. Operators offering services in Germany’s gaming industry will be permitted to proceed if they implement new regulatory changes. The new licencing process could exempt operators who chose to disregard the regulations.

Websites who would like to apply for next year’s licencing will need to delete live gaming from their offering from October 15, 2020. It involves games with live dealers. Card games, as well as additional RNG versions of those games, must also be excluded. As this title is restricted for use by land-based operators, operators should not refer to their sites as ‘casinos.’

Some providers of software have demonstrated social responsibility and compliance with the country. Microgaming requires such suppliers. The well-known supplier of gaming has over 150 games to be sold to players in the German market. 9 Masks of Fire by Gameburger Studios and Book of Oz by Triple Edge Studios are the games on sale.

ORYX Gaming and Synot Games have additional software vendors that comply with German regulations.

The recent regulatory changes affecting the iGaming industry are vast in Germany. The government requires that in all games offered by operators, autoplay must be disabled. The government is forcing operators to only allow players to deposit less than EUR 1,000 per month to further protect players.

Every hour, a reality check must be given. A five-minute cool-off duration has to be given after 60 minutes of playtime. Players will restart gaming following the break. Operators must also show a panic button all the time where, if they so desire, players can quickly remove themselves from casino gaming.

It will also no longer be permitted for operators to offer free games or demos.
