Fulham 4/7 Favourites To Win The Championship Less Than Halfway Through The Season

Fulham’s domination of the Championship was extended further on Saturday as their 4-1 thrashing of Barnsley made it seven wins in a row for Marco Silva’s team, leaving them as a 4/7 favourite to win the league with Bet365.

Boasting a hugely talented squad for a club that is in the second tier of English football, Fulham were tipped by many to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking but even their most ardent supporters will be surprised by how easy they have found things of late.

During their current seven-game win streak they have scored 25 goals and conceded just two and have lost just one of their last 10 in the Championship. At Craven Cottage they have won seven of their last eight, while they have won each of their last three away from home without conceding and scoring 12 themselves.

The form of Aleksandar Mitrovic has been the catalyst for their ascent to 4/7 odds-on favourites to win the division, with the Serbian international already finding himself on 21 league goals after just 18 matches. Two hat-tricks have contributed to that total, while he has also scored in each of his last seven appearances in the Championship, bagging 11 goals during that period.

Marco Silva is rapidly rebuilding a reputation that took a significant dent in England following an ill-fated stint at Everton that lasted less than two years. He has waited patiently for his next opportunity since that sacking in December 2019 and looks to have been validated in his decision to drop down to the Championship.

He has a squad full of players that are proven at this level including Harry Wilson, Bobby Reid, Tom Cairney, Nathaniel Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo and they are the favourites with good reason.

However, some may baulk at the 4/7 price given that they are just a point ahead of second-placed Bournemouth. Now led by former Fulham boss Scott Parker, the Cherries may look the more valuable selection at this moment in time for punters at 12/5 despite losing two of their last three Championship matches.

2021/22 Championship Winner Odds

  • Fulham – 4/7
  • Bournemouth – 12/5
  • West Bromwich Albion – 8/1
  • Stoke City – 25/1
  • Queens Park Rangers – 50/1
  • Coventry City – 66/1
  • Blackburn Rovers – 80/1
  • Huddersfield Town – 80/1
  • Sheffield United – 100/1
  • Millwall – 150/1
  • Middlesbrough – 150/1
  • Nottingham Forest – 150/1

If you were looking to back Fulham in the ‘to be promoted’ market, then you will get even shorter odds of 1/10 on the Cottagers. They already have a nine-point buffer between themselves and third-placed West Brom, who they recently defeated 3-0 at home thanks to a Mitrovic treble.

The Londoners’ impressive goal difference of +33 should tell you all you need to know about their dominance after 18 matches and it’s difficult to see any other team having the firepower to keep pace with them. They have scored an incredible 48 goals already – 15 more than the next highest-scoring team Bournemouth. That goals scored differential is more than the total goals that both Hull City and Barnsley have scored in the Championship (13) this season.
