Gaming brand Fortnite will be Brazilian team Santos FC’s Master Sponsor in the CONMEBOL Libertadores Championship Game, which will take place at Maracana Stadium on 30 January.
Following the announcement of a new agreement with Konami Digital Entertainment and its eFootball PES 2021 brand, this sponsorship is the second for the team in recent weeks.
Nate Nanzer, Head of Global Partnerships at Epic Games said: “Football is one of the main sports that our players ask us to consider and experience in Fortnite. We are excited to be partnering with Santos FC to bring the jogo bonito to Fortnite fans around the world.”
In addition to its brand occupying the Santos FC jersey’s most significant space during the final of the biggest club-level competition in America, the organisation will also carry out a campaign on the social media platforms of the team.
Team heads towards a global brand
Andrés Rueda, president of Santos FC said: “[It’s] an important initiative, not only on a commercial level but also in regards to positioning, as the team is getting closer to a global brand and one that is important for young people.”
Santos FC was one of 23 teams involved in a global activation last week to take football to Fortnite.
Football and eSports
Marcelo Frazão, Marketing executive of Santos FC added: “The relationship between the football industry and esports is becoming increasingly sophisticated and with different formats: clubs that participate in modalities with competitive teams, licenses of clubs’ brands within games and shirt sponsorships that use football as a platform for global brands and important games.
“Santos FC actively participates in all these formats and understands that these initiatives are strategic.
