The Gun Lake Tribe and Gun Lake Casino today released details of a $100 million expansion scheduled to be completed for the summer of 2021.
Preliminary site work is now beginning on the development that will bring new dining and entertainment options to the casino in Wayland Township as well as expanded gaming rooms.
“We have undergone a careful and detailed process to understand how to best serve the needs of our current guests — and enhanced dining, entertainment and gaming amenities are a high priority,” said Sal Semola, president and COO, Gun Lake Casino.
“These great new amenities will provide new experiences for our guests as part of our continued effort to make Gun Lake Casino the premier entertainment destination in western Michigan.”
The extension of the current 156,000-square-foot building would add 72,000 square feet. It will take to $415 million the overall tribal investment in the assets of Gun Lake Casino.
The project includes new construction space going south to 129th Avenue to extend the gaming floor and gaming high-limit areas. With 450 more slot machines, 12 new table games and a larger non-smoking area, gaming offers will increase.
Stage 131 will double in size, providing an expanded entertainment experience with more seating, a new outdoor patio area, and a new dining system.
The expansion will include two new high-end restaurants. More information will be given on the restaurants closer to the opening date.
JCJ Architecture would act as the project’s lead designer and Clark Construction was hired to serve as the construction manager for the project.
Construction will start in the weeks to come, and during construction the parking area south of the tower, nearest to 129th Avenue, will be closed. Signage will be erected on the north side of the facility to direct property visitors to parking areas, such as the covered parking garage.
Since its opening in 2011, Gun Lake Casino has expanded many times, including an extension of $76 million, 73,000 square feet completed in 2017.
