Despite the cancellation of the 2020/2021 season by its Trident Leagues partners, Entain Plc will continue to support grassroots football and community projects under the ‘Pitching In’ grassroots football and community funding programme.
The promise comes after the Isthmian, Northern Premier, and Southern Leagues of the Trident Leagues decided to end their seasons early due to COVID-19’s effect on scheduling fixtures.
Pitching In club donations
Furthermore, the cancellation comes after Entain made its first Pitching In club donations, which were spread by its ‘community fund,’ which was created in collaboration with the Trident Leagues.
Pitching In’s charity fund will be open to all non-league teams needing financial assistance as a result of the postponement of the Trident League’s 2020/2021 season, according to Entain.
The FTSE100 betting party claims that the FA Council will ratify its funding measure on March 18th.
Entain’s funding pledge, according to Group CEO Jette Nygaard-Andersen, comes at a crucial moment for amateur sports clubs, many of which are facing unparalleled financial difficulty as a result of COVID-19-related constraints.
“There was never any question that we would not honour in full our commitment to the Pitching In Trident Leagues,” Nygaard-Andersen explained.
“With grassroots sports facing huge pressures caused by the pandemic, we at Entain want to play our part, investing in community clubs to ensure not only they survive but thrive. This approach is fundamental to the ethos of our recently announced Sustainability Charter.”
Continuation of reviewing club proposals
Entain reassured that the community fund will continue to review proposals for grants of up to £5,000 to assist Trident clubs in dealing with COVID situations – the scheme’s first round of funds supported 27 clubs across Trident’s Isthmian, Northern Premier, and Southern Leagues.
The operator has set aside £150,000 for the first year of a grassroots programme funding local football clubs in 2021.
Stuart Pearce, a former England captain and a product of the grassroots scheme, backed Entain’s contribution as a Pitching In ambassador.
“Our brilliant non-league clubs, who are at the heart of their communities, need financial support now more than ever,” Pearce said. “It takes a lot of money to run a football club and make it thrive. Pitching In honouring this sponsorship will make a real difference.”
