For the regulated Colombian online gambling industry, Entain Plc (formerly GVC Holdings) plans to launch its Bwin sportsbook property next month.
Entain’s Senior Vice President of US Regulatory Affairs & Responsible Gambling, Martin Lycka, told SBC Noticias about the fast-moving developments within Colombia for the FTSE100 betting community.
Lycka announced that Entain will aim for an early 2021 market launch of its flagship Bwin sportsbook, having recently obtained a Colombian online gambling licence from federal regulator Coljuegos.
Colombia currently serves as the only regulated online gambling marketplace in South America, having introduced its online gambling system in 2017, enabling international operators to secure local partnerships.
Entain retains the goals of its new corporate charter in a Colombian launch, in which the FTSE group has assured investors that by the end of 2023 they will operate 100 percent across controlled markets.
“Colombia is Entain’s first regulated country in Latin America – our bwin brand is the first truly global gambling brand to have become licensed in the market,” Lycka said.
“Following our 9 December rebrand, we plan on growing our Colombian business to become one of the biggest and at the same time the safest online gambling offering in the country.”
Furthermore, Lycka clarified that Entain was also closely tracking all LatAm industry developments. “In accordance with our new strategy, we look into other opportunities across the region, in particular in Brazil, which we expect to regulate throughout next year,” he added.
