Because of a lack of sales, Wynn Resorts has announced its Encore Las Vegas property will reduce opening hours and close fully on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
As of next week, the resort will open on Thursdays at 2 pm and close on Mondays at noon.
A press release from Wynn indicated that “until consumer demand for Las Vegas increases,” the new hours would remain in effect.
What impact the shortened hours would have on workers at the property is still unclear.
A representative from Wynn stated: “We have not yet determined the number of employees who will be furloughed as a result of the reduction in operating hours.”
The complete opening hours of Wynn Las Vegas, also located on the strip, will continue to run.
UNLV gaming historian David Schwartz, speaking to the media, said that other casinos are likely to pursue Wynn ‘s decision.
Schwartz said: “With most conventions being on hiatus, we don’t have a lot of mid-week occupancy, so it makes sense to close hotels, or even the entire resort during the week. If the current conditions continue, we could see more properties do this.”
