DraftKings, a daily fantasy sports and sports betting company, was named the Official Sportsbook and Daily Fantasy Partner of the Professional Fighters League (PFL) on Tuesday, as part of a multi-year partnership. Fans across the country will be able to wager on PFL fights via DraftKings, pending regulatory approval.
PFL’s patented SmartCage technology will be used to provide MMA, daily fantasy, and sports betting fans with a special viewing and gaming experience under the terms of the agreement.
The PFL claims to be the first in combat sports to collect and distribute real-time fighter data and analytics, which are incorporated into every broadcast as well as the league’s digital and social media platforms. Punch pace, fighter monitoring, kick speed, heart rate, and caloric burn are all included in the game.
This information will eventually allow for unique and creative prop bets. For example, fans will be able to wager on whether a fighter will land a strike that exceeds 25 miles per hour.
Looking to advance the sport
The PFL’s CEO, Peter Murray, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with DraftKings as we look to advance the sport by delivering a premium and unique betting and gaming experience to the millions of passionate MMA fans in the US.
“Our SmartCage technology and unique season format are integral components of PFL and will enable us to offer unmatched prop bets and gaming opportunities. MMA’s league is back with our season debut this Friday, April 23 in primetime on ESPN2, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes.”
Each event will feature live DraftKings odds on ESPN networks and streaming outlets, as well as during the PFL’s pre-fight show. Former college basketball player and ESPN media personality Jonathan Coachman, as well as former MMA fighter Ian Parker, will host the programme, which is sponsored by DraftKings.
The operator will also offer cash prizes as well as PFL-branded pools tied to the regular season, playoffs, and championship events. The 2019 PFL Championship Pick’Em game, which drew over 30,000 submissions and featured six million-dollar world title fights on New Year’s Eve, has been expanded.
First official betting and daily fantasy partner
DraftKings’ Chief Business Officer, Ezra Kucharz, added: “We are excited to further our relationship with the Professional Fighters League as their first official betting and daily fantasy partner.
“MMA is mainstream. The fan is young, loyal, passionate, and engaged, and PFL delivers an innovative product. We look forward to bringing a premium betting and fantasy experience to this growing audience in what is a monumental partnership for combat sports and the gaming industry.”
DraftKings logos will be shown in the cage, and the company has exclusive rights to use PFL logos and “Official Partner” branding for advertisements and promotions. Furthermore, the two companies will work together on unique, themed content for their social and digital channels.
Professional Fighters League has rapidly developed itself as the world’s No. 2 MMA organisation since its establishment in 2018. The league has seen massive year-over-year growth across digital platforms, with a 68 percent rise in Instagram followers, a 30 percent increase in overall audience across digital, and a 200 percent increase in social interaction.
