DraftKings, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, has launched its digital sportsbook entity in Virginia, marking the twelfth state available for the company’s mobile and online sports wagering service.
Subsequently, Virginia customers will now be able to place bets on a number of professional and collegiate sports markets using the app, following the approval of the Virginia Lottery.
In addition, Betfair Interactive US (d/b/a FanDuel) and BetMGM are also listed as approved entities, with International Game Technology, GeoComply, and Sports Information Services (d/b/a Kambi) being those on the supplier list to date.
Consumer research study
Virginia sports fans were more likely to bet on the NFL, followed by the NBA and college football, a consumer research study by DraftKings indicated.
The same study found that the two most favoured NFL teams in Virginia are the Washington Football Team and the Dallas Cowboys, and the most popular NBA sides are the LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Washington Wizards.
In the Commonwealth of Virginia, DraftKings Sportsbook will give sports bettors the opportunity to bet on more than 250 unique leagues in baseball, football, golf, hockey, boxing, soccer, tennis, motorsports and basketball. With the exception of in-state college teams and college prop bets, collegiate sports are also available.
Jason Robins, co-founder and CEO, DraftKings said: “Just in time for Super Bowl LV, we are thrilled to bring the DraftKings sports betting experience to Virginia with an abundance of betting options for fans.
“With our customer-first approach, we hope to be the sportsbook of choice for Virginians who enjoy having skin in the game.”
Draftkings took its offer live in Michigan on Friday 22 January, teaming up with the Bay Mills Indian Community, which counts as part of its stable the Bay Mills Resort & Casino, to launch online sports betting and igaming, which will include blackjack, roulette and slots.
