Danske Spil-owned sportsbook, Oddset, revealed that it has become a new sponsor for Randers FC, a Danish team in the Superliga, the nation’s highest football league.
The branding of Oddset will be visible from 20 September on at Randers FC Stadium, Cepheus Park. The sponsorship continues until summer 2023.
Morten Hørby Andersen, Randers FC sales manager, commented: “We are incredibly happy to have Oddset back in the fold as a partner and look forward to resuming the close relationship and the good collaboration. A collaboration that benefits both Oddset, Randers FC and the club’s fans”.
The owner of Danske Licens Spil, Niels Erik Folmann, added: “At Danske Spil, we have an ambition to get closer to the many fans in the Super League who, like us, love the sport and the excitement of football. Therefore, we are pleased that Oddset in the coming seasons will be present at Randers FC’s home ground, where fans will meet Denmark’s best sports games.”
A number of Danish teams, including Aarhus Gymnastikforening (AGF), Brøndby IF, FC Midtjylland and OB, currently have sponsorship deals with Oddset.
A recent reform in marketing laws has seen football clubs unable to display gambling firms’ logos alongside those of any organisation providing lending or credit services, causing problems for many teams regarding sponsorships.
Despite criticism from the Danish Football Union (DBU), the ombudsman of the nation defended the law saying that showing banking-related and gambling logos in any vicinity would be listed as in violation of the law.
Danske Spil is currently working with the DBU on the implementation of the Spil-ID, a new compulsory ID card intended to discourage gambling by minors. The Spil-ID card must be displayed by all players when it comes into effect before they can buy gambling goods at retail locations such as kiosks or supermarkets.
