Brazil’s Mato Grosso Could Host New Casino Resort

A new project to bring about the legalisation of gambling in Brazil will be presented by Senator Angelo Coronel. It was disclosed in a report from O Antagonista, shared by BNL Data, that Coronel believes games of chance are “games of fortune” and that the state of Mato Grosso will host a casino resort as part of his new initiative.

When regular operations are restored, the senator’s report will be discussed in the house. Currently, Coronel is the rapporteur on another bill introduced by Senator Roberto Rocha in 2019, which also aims to create casinos in resorts.

One of these casinos will be Malai Manso, the Mato Grosso resort situated in Chapada dos Guimarães, as reported by local media.

Moreover, the revenue from gambling and casinos is expected to fund assistance programmes. This will also be one of the primary components of current President Jair Bolsonaro’s reelection bid in 2022.

Senator Irajá Abreu introduced Bill 4,495/2020 last month to legalise casino resorts to improve Brazilian tourism. “The legalisation of casino gambling inside integrated tourist facilities, followed by a concession process to exploit these services, will attract large investments to the Brazilian tourism market, and will boost the economic activity of all regions of this country,” he said.

The project conditions specify that only 10 percent of the total space should be allocated to the casino area for the construction of integrated resorts. In addition , the federal government will have exclusive authority to “to grant licenses, regulate and moderate those services, [as well as the] implementation and operation of the activities of casino resorts.”
