Blueprint Gaming, the slot maker, has collaborated with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) to create a new themed game for the World Darts Championship.
The recent release sees the slot maker making its debut in the sports-themed online casino goods segment, showing an extension of its range.
The slot will include prominent dart players, including newly crowned world champion ‘The Iceman’ Gerwyn Price, as well as ‘Mighty Mike’ Michael van Gerwen and ‘Snakebite’ Peter Wright, officially licenced from the PDC.
First stand-out release
Jo Purvis, Director of Marketing and Relationships at Blueprint Gaming explained: “Get ready for some quality darts action as we unveil PDC World Darts Championship as the first standout release from the Blueprint portfolio this year..
“Featuring the sport’s biggest and most recognisable characters, we’re offering an entertaining experience, backed by a proven casino format that will resonate with a large audience.”
The title is based on a successful format familiar in numerous markets for slots gamers. In addition to a cumulative 180 spins triggered by landing five symbols, the release contains a Free Games feature, awarded by landing three dartboard scatter symbols.
Legendary darts players of the PDC
Gamers can choose to play with all the legendary darts players of the PDC, including the aforementioned Price, van Gerwen and Wright, or take on a mystery pick choice that randomly selects a rival from around the sport, which, based on the merit of the thrower, can in turn influence the size of the win.
Additionally, the title will include the Sid Waddell Trophy as a major emblem in gameplay, as awarded to the Darts World Champion.
Broadening the appeal of darts
The Chairman of the Professional Darts Corporation, Barry Hearn OBE, said: “The global popularity of darts continues to grow, shown recently with the thoroughly enthralling 2020/21 World Darts Championship, which even given the current situation and absence of our iconic Ally Pally crowds, didn’t fail to disappoint in the drama stakes.
“Partnering with Blueprint Gaming for the development of this unique game is another important step to broaden the appeal of the sport to more people across the globe. They have a fantastic reputation within the gaming industry for developing high quality content and we had no hesitation in partnering with Blueprint for this special game release.”
The deal marks an expansion of the comprehensive betting Industry collaborations portfolio of the PDC. The tournament combined with Low6 in June 2020 to launch the PDC Picks darts betting app, targeted at reaching a more varied and younger audience.
This was followed in September 2020 by an extension of its sponsorship deal with Boyle Sports, which saw the Irish bookmaker fund the Wolverhampton Civic Hall Grand Slam of Darts tournament in November.
Barry Hearn has recently reported on the latest review of the country’s gambling laws by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), claiming that a ban on betting sponsorships may be a ‘disaster for every layer of sport’.
