- ABA: Adriatic League – League canceled without a champion
ABA League season has been ended earlier without naming a champion. After a meeting in May 27 between ABA League clubs it was decided to cancel the 2019-2020 season. It was also voted not to proclaim a champion as well as not to relegate any teams while the two top teams will be added from ABA Second Division which will increase the league from 12 to 14 teams for the 2020-2021 season.
- Argentina: Liga A – The ADC (Argentinian Association of Basketball) Crisis Committee, the ADC Executive Board members, together with the clubs from the Liga A has met on Tuesday via videoconferencing reaffirmed the goal to finish the 2019/2020 season.
The ADC Crisis Committee, along with the representative of the clubs, agreed to extend the suspension of the current season, until June 1, 2020.
“I want to thank all the A Liga clubs for participating in the meeting. We want to finish the season and we are glad that we have the support of the clubs. In the next few days, we are going to talk with the Competition Department and the Medical Department in order to find the best way to resume the tournament with all the necessary health measurements” – The president of ADC Gerardo Montenegro has told after the meeting.
- Australia: National Basketball League – The NBL has been in dialogue with all nice clubs as the league looks ahead to start the 2020-21 season.
“We are encouraged by the steps other sporting leagues have made as they return to play and we will monitor their programs and work with the relevant health authorities and government as we look ahead to start the next season” – NBL Owner and Executive Chairman Larry Kestelman has said.
“We will continue to observe the situation and work closely with the clubs and the Australian Basketball Players Association (ABPA) over the coming weeks and months and will provide further updates as more information becomes available. But we are taking a very positive and proactive approach”
- Austria: Superliga – Season ended earlier – The season was ended prematurely because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After the Austria Basketball Association and Basketball Superliga had declared the 19/20 season to be over in mid-March, it was announced that: The current season of the Superliga, Superliga Women, and the Basketball Zweite League will be completed without winners. There will be no promotions or allegations as well.
“The current crisis has brought our basketball season to and early end. As a result, we won’t be able to end declare champion, in terms of fairness.” – The Managing Director of Basketball Superliga – Tomas Kanovsky has said.
- Belarus: Premier League & Premier League Women – Women’s championship completed earlier due to Covid-19, Men’s Final rescheduled for September
In a meeting that took place on May 22, The BSE Executive Committee of the Belarusian Basketball Federation decided to end Women’s Premier League and to set Men finals for September.

The Final matches of the Men’s championship will be held in September in the “Final Four” format for 1 to 4 places. The participants will be th teams of – “Tsmoki-Minsk, Borisfen , Rubon, Grodno.” The places of the remaining teams will be arranged according to the places of the standing.
- Belgium: EuroMillions Basketball League – Euromillions Basketball league Canceled due to COVID-19.
The basketball league has decided to cancel the EuroMillions Basketball league first division due to coronavirus outbreak.
The decision was made in order to protect the health of players, clubs, and fans and to halt the spread of the Covid-19.
Oostende – Crowned champions according to the current standing. The start of the next season has been set for 3 October 2020 with the possibility to start the season until 7 November.
The Belgian Cup Final will be played on 21 March 2021 while the Orange All Astart game is planned for 10 April 2021. Belgium Basketball Awards – 15 May 2021
- Brazil: NBB – Season 2019/2020 canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The NBB suspended the season in March after Leandro Barbosa (former NBA guard) has tested positive for coronavirus. Barbosa has made a full recovery but the decision to cancel the season was taken. The decision to cancel the season was made official on Monday the 4th of May and will be without an official champion. After a video meeting, representative of all 16 clubs has come to an agreement that there is no longer any possibility of resuming the competition in time and with all necessary security measures. The vote was unanimous
- Bulgaria: NBL – BFB (Bulgarian Basketball Federation) decided to cancel the season 2019/2020 because of Covid-19 outbreak.BFB decided to end the season via an online meeting on 16 April. The meeting was attended by all 10 members of the federation. The end of the NBLchampionship was taken with 9 votes in favor and one abstention. The vote was unanimous. With 10 from 10 votes, it was decided that there will be no champion or relegation this season. According to the rules, the matches played so far this season are not enough to declare champion or final ranking. The BFB decided to determine European club participants for the next season according to the ranking in the NBL from the last season 2018/2019. The next season is scheduled to start on 10 October.
- Canada: NBL season officially canceled<
The National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) has decided to cancel the rest of the 19/20 regular season along with the playoffs because of the Covid-19, There will be no champion this season in the National Basketball League (NBL) of Canada – after a unanimous vote between the board of governors.
- China: CBA – Expected to resume in July
Chinese League was the first league to postpone its matches and was expected to be the first back. But it’s been delay – until at least July.
It was previously scheduled to resume play on April 15, as teams were calling back foreign players. But on March 30, extended the ban aim the concerns with the Covid-19 spread.

- Cyprus: OPAP Basket League – Season canceled on March 13
Cyprus Basketball Federation (CBF) have agreed to cancel the 2019/2020 season due to Covid-19 outbreak. The final table and the champion are yet to be decided.
- Croatia: Premijer Liga – All Basketball competition canceled
In order to prevent the spread of the Covid-19, in accordance with the Civil protection headquarters and the Ministry of Health, the board of Croatian Basketball Federation made a decision to end the season. In the league run by the Croatian Basketball Federation – There won’t be champions or relegations.
- Czech Republic – NBL Cancels rest of season, without champions
After meeting on May 6, the Committee of the Czech Basketball Federation decided that the current table will be final for the ranking of teams, but there will no Champion, Promotions, or Relegation. Nymburuk finished first, but they won’t be crowned Champions – The federation decided. For the first time in history, NBL won’t have a champion. Unlike NBL title was awarded in ZBL Women Division to USK Prague shortly after the end of March. This is the 10 in a row title for the Prague team.
- Denmark: Basketligaen – Canceled – Next season is set to start in October.
The basketball league, after cooperation with the Danish Basketball Association (DBBF), decided to cancel the remaining matches of the 2019/2020 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Danish Basketball Federation’s board of directors held a meeting on Tuesday, March 24 in which it was decided to award medals despite the shortened season.

- Finland: Korisliiga Men/Women Seasons Canceled without naming champions
The Finish Basketball Association stopped all basketball series from Thursday 12 March 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Men and women’s basketball leagues – Korisliiga, Korisliiga Women, the National Youth Series, The wheelchair Basketball season have ended for the 2019/2020 season. The Basketball Association announced on 19 March. The Finnish men’s and women’s basketball champions for season 2019/2020 will not be crowned. The last time this happened was back in 1943 – because of World War 2
- France: Canceled without declaring a champion due to Covid-19
After a general meeting of the national basketball league on May 27.2020 which was held via videoconference for the first time in the history of the competition, it was decided to cancel the remaining of the competition. There will be no relegation or promotion as both first and second division will keep the same number of clubs for the upcoming season.
- Germany: BBL League is Expected to resume on June 6 and to end on June 28
On May 19, the German Basketball League (BBL) has been given a green light by the government to complete its season with a 10-team tournament in Munich’s Audi Dome in early-June in order to complete 2019/2020 season. Clubs will be divided into two groups Gruppe A: Bayern Munchen, Hakro Merlins Crailsheim, EWE Baskets Oldenburg, BG Gottingen, and Ratiopharm Ulm
The total of 35 games are set to be played, the start of the tournament is set for June 6, Finals will take place on June 26 – 28. This will make BBL the first basketball league in Europe to restart its season after the pandemic
- Greece: Basket League – Ended earlier with Panathinaikos named champions, no relegation due to Covid-19 outbreak.
The Greek Basketball Federation (HEBA) decided to end the season on May 21. After a meeting with the general assembly of the clubs in which was decided after a unanimous vote to crown Panathinaikos as 2019-2020 season champions. They also decided that there will be no relegation due to the pandemic.

- Ireland: 2020 season ended earlier
The Elite Performance Committee (EPC) of Basketball Ireland has announced the closure of its international season for 2020 – Basketball Ireland operates ten international programs at U16, U17, U18, and U20 along with Senior For Men and Women.
“This has been a very difficult decision for us to make however given the current pandemic the health and well being of our players and all involved is paramount to us and we will now look forward to planning for next year. In terms of our sport, the EPC will work closely with Basketball Ireland on how we will get our National Team back on the cour and training together again. - Israel: Super League – Season expected to resume on June 20 without fans
The Israeli Basketball Premier League announces shortened season, with foreign players who enter Israel to be required to quarantine for two weeks.

- Italy: Liga A – Season canceled without naming a champion following the Covid-19 outbreak.
The Italian League decided to cancel the rest of the 2019/2020 season due to safety measures without declaring a champion and with no relegation.
It was also decided that: Reale Mutua Torino to be promoted from Serie A2 to Liga A as the 18th team of the competition.
The Federation also decided the spots fo European competitions for the next season: Olimpia Milano – Euroleague. Virtus Bologna, and Brescia – Eurocup. Sassari, Fortitudo Bologna along with Brindisi – Basketball Champions League
Next season is set to start at the end of September / early October
- Japan: League cancels remained of B-League season due to Covid-19 pandemic
Japan’s professional basketball league made the decision to abandon its regular season and playoffs after 95 games were played because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Because of the unusual circumstances, the league decided against finishing the season, and instead, they will add two more teams to the top division for the upcoming season
- Latvia-Estonia Korvpalliliiga : Season is suspended until further notice.
Considering the danger caused by the Covid-19 outbreak worldwide, Latvian-Estonian Basketball League board decided to suspend all the games until further notice.
The League will make further decisions based on the situation and is following the instructions of the governments of Estonia and Latvia.
- Lithuania: Season canceled, Zalgiris crowned as champions
Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) Board has decided to take all the necessary safety action in order to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the country. The federation decided to end league with current regular season standing and to crown league leaders, BC Zalgiris as the champion
- Mexico: LNPB season set to start September 10th and to be over by December 6th.
On Monday the 18th of May, the LNPB held a congress in which they confirmed the plans to hold 2020 season, thirteen teams have been set to participate. The final number of teams will be announced before the end o June
- Montenegro: Prva A Liga Season declared Void
All completion for the current season were canceled on May 14 with the following decision:
Competitions in all categories for season 2019/2020 were canceled and declared Void. European spots for next season will be decided based on placements from the 2018/2019 season
- Netherlands: league canceled prematurely no champion named.
Dutch Basketball League has announced the decision to cancel the rest of its season back in March. There will be no champion named. The ranking remains as they were in the time of the suspension – Landstede Hammers on top, Donar Groningen second and Heroes Den Bosch on the third
- New Zealand: Season set to start on June 23
The new 2020 season participant teams are: Taranaki Mountainairs, Manawatu Jets, Nelson Giants,Otago Nuggets, Canterbury Rams, Auckland Huskies, Franklin Bulls. All teams will be based in Auckland from June 23 for six weeks and 56 games, with the venue yet to be confirmed.
Otago Nuggets will join the competition for the first time since 2014
- North Macedonia: Superleague Canceled without naming a champion
Season 2019/2020 in North Macedonia is officially canceled.
The federation gave the clubs the right to vote about 3 options: 1. Season to be canceled without a champion. 2. To be canceled with MZT Skopje as Champions 3. Season to continue
Next season is scheduled to start on October 20 and would end with a final tournament from 16 to 18, 2021
- Norway: BLNO season canceled
The playoffs were played in the format of a best-of-three game. During the quarantine, the league was canceled because of the Covid-19 outbreak. NBBF has announced the end of the remaining matches for the 2019/2020 season. Kongsberg Miners finished the season in 1st place with 26 wins and 1 loss. Baerum second with 19-8 and Gimle as third with 17-10. Next season 2020/21 is expected to start in early October
- Philippines: PBA cancels the rest of the season, due to Covid-19 outbreak.
In a special meeting held on, March 10 the Philippine Basketball Association Board of Governors through the office of the Commissioner, decided to cancel its on-going PBA Philippine Cup and PBA D-League Aspirants Cup games and activities and PBA 3×3 inaugural until further notice.
Considering represent the situation with Covid-19 and the Presidential Declaration of Public Health Emergency, it is our duty and responsibility to ensure the health and safety of our fans, players, teams, officials, and staff. – The federation has stated via social media.
- Poland: Energa Basket Liga – Season canceled, Stelmet Enea BC Zielona Gora declared champions.
Polish Basketball League (PLK) decided to cancel the remainder of its season due to the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe. The current standing will be the final ranking which makes Stelmet Enea BC Zieloan Gora champions of the season 2019/2020
- Portugal: LPB season officially canceled, with no champion named.
Portuguese Basketball Federation (FPB) came up with the decision to cancel the rest of the season in all completions. There will be no champions crowned. No relegation will be made as well
- Romania: Liga 1 – Romanian Basketball Federation (FRB) officially announce the cancellation of 2019/2020 season
FRB had a videoconference on Wednesday, May 20 to discuss various topics. After a unanimous vote, it was decided to cancel the remaining league games for the 2019/2020 season. Therefore LNBM, LNBG along with League 1 are now over. No champions will be announced. The current table standing will be the final ranking
- Russia: VTB United League – Season canceled due to Covid-19 outbreak, Khimki will retain EuroLeague spot.
The season was canceled in early March by the VTB officials after video meeting between clubs.
No champion will be determined for the current 2019/2020 season since the teams have played a different amount of games. Khimki will keep its EuroLeague spot, after the finish in the top position on both previous seasons.
The plan for next season 2020/2021 is to start in early October
- Serbia: Canceled – KLS decides to cancel the rest of 2019/2020 season.
Basketball League of Serbia (KLS) board held a meeting on May 28 in which an important decision was made. KLS members voted to cancel the 2019/2020 season. Champion will not be crowned this year
- Slovakia: Canceled – Both Extraliga Men and Extraliga Women ended earlier.
SBL official and director Peter Micud have agreed to early end the rest of the 2019.2020 season due to Covid-19 outbreak. The league also decided no relegation for this season with all 9 teams qualifying for the next season. Next season will start on September 26.
- Slovenia: SKL canceled – No champion will be declared
Because the season wasn’t finished the SKL decided not to crown a champion for 2019/2020 season, furthermore, no one will be relegated as well. 2 SKL standing will be final, therefor Triglav became a champion and will be promoted to SKL next season
- South Korea: Korean Basketball League (KBL) won’t resume season
KBL decided to cancel the remainder of its season due to safety concerns following the Covid-19 pandemic. The play was suspended on February 29th
- Spain: ACB wants to restart Spanish League season on June 17
An announcement from the ACB from (May 27) stated that the 12-team tournament will be held for approximately 2 weeks in Valencia”If nothing changes, the dates in which we will play the final phase will be between June 17 and June 30” – ACB president Antonio Martin revealed on Moviestar +The plan is to finish the group stage by June 26 and then to proceed with the semifinals on June 28 and the Final on June 30.
- Sweden: Canceled – Svensk Basket Association decided to end the season’s competition activities for 2019/2020.
The Swedish Basketball Association’s Board of Directors has decided on March 13 to cancel all competition activities for the 2019/2020 season. In another meeting that took place on April 23, 2020, the Basketball Association has decided to cancel the Swedish Cup season 2020/2021. The reason is that clubs should be allowed to be in perfect form in order to compete.
- Switzerland: Canceled – The League canceled the remainder of its season on March 13
On March 13, 2020, the season was ended prematurely due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The league ended with two rounds of the regular season unplayed. The decision to cancel the remaining matches was taken after a meeting between the league and the clubs.
- Taiwan: Finished – Taiwan Beer won Super Basketball League (SBL) title.
Taiwan Beer won the title after a decisive win over Yulon Luxgen Dinos. The series ended 4:3 in favor of Taiwan Beer. The 2019-2020 season of the Super Basketball League continued despite the pandemic. After the government shut down all publicly-controlled arenas on March 19, the basketball league stopped as well but ended upholding all of its remaining games at the HaoYU Basketball Training Center.

The Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) president Hidayet Rukoglu announced that the season is canceled earlier this month.No one will be crowned champion or relegated while the current standing will be used in order to decide European spots.
- Ukraine: Season Canceled, Final Four Cup – moved to September 2020
Ukrainian Basketball Federation has decided to cancel the remaining matches in the competition in order to protect the health and safety of players, coaches, officials, and fans. in mid-March. This means SuperLeague and Second Division – male and female.
Final Four Cup was supposed to take place in Yuzhne on March 14 and 15, but as a result of the quarantine in Ukraine due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic, it was decided that The Ukrainian Cup Final Four will be moved to September 2020.
- United Kingdom: British Basketball League (BBL) postponed until further notice due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
With the 2019/20 season currently postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the BBL is keep holding weekly Board meeting online, to determine the best possible ways to deal with it and how and when the league could restart. The discussion includes how to finish the season and how to prepare for the next.
Although there is a lot of uncertainty, the BBL’s member Clubs continue to disc some potential options to allow an effective and safe return to action. The main option being discussed are:

- USA: NBA is expected to resume on July 31
The National Basketball Association’s board of governors is expected to approve commissioner Adam Silver’s recommendation on a format to resume the Covid-19 postponed season in Florida in a vote next Thursday – ESPN reported on Friday (May 29) night.
The League’s hope to be back on the court by the end of July, Silver’s decision would likely have to come soon. Not all team have reopened their practice facilities meaning that some players won’t be in shape for the restart of the season.
